Reflex Colors

why just four colors for the Reflex? i'm already going to buy a white one, but i can't help but wonder why none of the other colors that are already being used in house aren't available for this magnificent bass.

I think they do it to keep us interested.

That which is unattainable tends to be more engaging... and the more you think about these things the more likely you are to just break down and get one.

In the meantime, I'm using it as one of my excuses to not order a BA5 RIGHT NOW.

No one is asking for purple, or fluorescent burgundy. Most of us would settle for any of the numerous colors available for the current non-signature guitars and Stingrays and Sterlings.

The lack of color options beyond black, white, sb, and gold was one of the factors that prompted me to buy a used bass this weekend instead of putting that money towards a new Reflex.

It's that way, so that you will order one now, and another one when your favorite orange or green will become available. The only thing I don't understand is, why black is not made much more expensive than all the other colours. That's at least what other companies do... make lots of ugly colours available at bargain prices, and the black beauty is a special edition with upcharge. Y'know, even Apple did that...

That said, the white would look even more rad with black hardware.

BTW, anyone else thinks that Vintage Gold will follow the path of Desert Gold, Medaillon Gold and True Gold and become extinct soon? Think I gotta order me one of those... if the five string models become available on my continent before that colour makes place for another shade of black... or maybe I just sit it out and wait for another orange to come along...

What I find curious is how a given color will be available on one bass, but not another, and for no apparent reason.

On the Bongo it makes sense because of the basswood body - no trans finishes allowed. But why aren't the colors more consistent across the line?

Why would a Candy Red Big Al sell enough to justify offering that finish, but a Candy Red Reflex not?

What you talkin Bout??? Ive been asking for a Purple for almost a year now!!!
I will buy right now, a Purple 4H + Emerald Green 4HSS + White 4H .
My hopes now are on Guitar Center doing a limited run in those colors, like they did a couple months ago with the Reflex Guitar. Fing got a SWEEET Purple Quilt !!

my .02.... as a retailer its tuff to support a line with 50,000 options because the one that I have invested in(in stock) is not the one that the guy in the store with cash in hand wants, offering just a few options allows the dealer to have everyone that you could possible want, in stock, and ready to ship today! Plus GC can probably afford to have "one to show and one to go" allowing you to get one fresh in the box vs. the beat up version on display....

Well, at this moment white/maple FB/single H 5 is my choice, but if I could choose "my own" custom color, ...I don't know, ...should think about it!

Maybe one of the bright metallic/pearloid modern "car" paint job could look nice on this wonderful bass, or some transparent color with visible maple top wood grain too?

Or, you could be like me and simply not buy one at all because you already have enough basses in black and white and don't want to settle with a $2000 instrument for the most common color in the instrument world after black (sunburst) or the single color option that everyone else will get (gold).

I mean--my two Bongos get the job done for every gig I play. So, anything else is simply a luxury. Saves me money, though, so I can't complain.

And, speaking of Bongos--GC ordered the same Desert Gold and Sapphire Black (with the occasional Carbon Blue) Bongos for every store, and then wondered why they all sat on the shelves and stopped ordering them at all. I hope the same doesn't happen to the Big Al and Reflex.


I'm not talking about sparkles, or gold hardware, or piezos on the Reflex/Big Al/Bongo 6--I'm talking about colors already on the shelf. Otherwise, you're basically forced to do what I'm doing--buying used and planning on a refinish.

I found out on Thursday that there was not going to be any new colors announced at Summer NAMM, and I bought a used bass on Friday morning. So, yeah--it wasn't the only factor, but it was certainly a big contributing factor that I took into consideration when making the leap.

I'm going to look at it AND play it. If the look wasn't important, we'd all be playing bass versions of Bo Diddly's guitar. There wouldn't be any need for figured tops on 25th anniversary instruments, choices between birdseye or flamed on Classics, or tshirts that say "That top sucks," now would there? If that's the case, all basses should simply be black--that's the color that sells the most, right?

I make money on the sound, too. That's why I am perfectly satisfied with the basses I currently have considering the limited color choices for the new models. The Reflex coming out didn't magically make my amazing Bongos that I've played for over 6 years sound any less impressive in the mix. I'm not going to start getting less money per gig because I don't have the new models. Again--anything else is simply a luxury at this point. My Bongos and the new thing on the way will more than cover my NEEDS to get the job done.

I like those colors. White is too cool, gold is classic, sunburst looks rich, black is for those who must have a black bass (not me...) I choose white, no sunburst... CAn't wait to play one.
