One of my StingRay's has the transitional bridge, I sure would like to get a mute replacement kit. It already has the screws.

Send a PM to Colin (yes in Aus). He says he still has a couple new-in-bag mute plate sets left.

It's like a Meat Loaf song. I would do anything for mutes - but I won't do that.

:)

haha, actually that was the idea behind this thread title :D
was playing with that foam bar under the bridge and suddenly i began to sing this Meat Loaf song with the 'I would do anything for mutes...' lyrics!
No joke...

the bassmute that bassmonkee speaks of! i have it, and yes it sounds identical to the real mccoy(or at least i think). it works perfect on the stingray four string and sounds amazing. i know how you feel lol, when i played on a classic i loved that sound more than anything in the world and thought that even though i had perfect sound that one slight change made it something brilliant.

My dads the Banjo player, the duster over the finger board is to mute all sound while practicing repetitive three finger rolls with the right hand, the foam bass style mute by the bridge was just put in for good measure :p,
There is also another foam pad/mute in the back of it to dampen down the tone ring as well cause the sheer amount of volume that comes out of it when played with steel finger pics is shocking! its a very unforgiving tool to say the least .

I have done the foam trick in the past. EG I use a piece of foam when I do Pink Floyd Money. Sounds great, but I also would love to be able to have an EBMM mute bridge for both my Sterling and my Bongo.

Blu-Tack, rolled into a noodle and placed over the strings, works very well, too. Instantly removable, and no need to experiment.

We really need for everyone to be able to express their opinion and leave it at that. Way too much bs these days. If Fran likes foam and Bassmonkee doesnt it is what eer it takes to get the notes out.

you know im halfway considering inventing a mute kit for stingrays that are exactly like the old thumbscrew ones that can be attached like the bassmute but im afraid it would come out looking like the mute equivelant of these

lol not to derail the thread but man thats a great idea, i mean the banjo i got easily gets over a drumset when i play with a drummer. its ludicrous how loud the things are, and its easy to see why they were the lead instrument in jazz bands before the event of the electric guitar! is it an open back?

No its a Bluegrass style banjo, open back is mainly used for "frailling" style, two totally different styles of playing.
Either way the banjo is a very "unforgiving" instrument to play as the slightest of mistakes sounds dreadful so the more you can dampen the sound down for practice the better.
