A-string breaking a lot on my JP-6

Hey guys,

All of a sudden, my A string is breaking on my JP6. It's breaking at the bridge after not many hours of playing - maybe 15-20 or so. I'm using EB RPS 10 strings. There is a very faint mark on the saddle but find it odd it's enough to break the string.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Much appreciated.

One thing to look at may not be the guitar, but the player. I know I know....

I had the same problem with my Silhouette. I was constantly breaking D strings. I sent it to the factory (no issues), replaced the saddles with Graphtech string savers (no help), and even switched guitar strings (didn't help either - I am back to using EBs!).

What I decided to do was focus more on my technique. I think the best thing I did was switch from Heavy to Medium picks and slightly adjust the way I strum. I haven't broke a string in months.

Your results may vary.

The thing I try to do is figure out whether it's a hardware issue or a technique issue (i.e. heavy picking).

If you're breaking strings at the same place on the bridge repeatedly, I would check carefully to see if it's a burr or something that's catching. Hey, it happens. Have a good look and, armed with that info, give the CS folks a call. I'm sure they can help you sort it out.

If it's a technique issue (as above), then there a few things you can try. But important thing is to try and figure out why this is happening, so you can look to solve the problem one way or another.

Guys, cool it.

It's ok to try and help by asking questions if you have some understanding of a problem. BP just doesn't want armchair docs fixing things over the Internet.

What's best for the customer is good advice, not suggestions from left field from a bunch of guys that have no real knowledge of the problem. Unfortunately we often have to apply the blanket statement of "no advice" since people don't always seem to know where that line is.

What's best for the customer is certainly not a bunch of guys fighting.

Bottom line: if you have something of value to add, go ahead and respectfully ad it. If not, sit back and relax. If nobody gets to it, go ahead and suggest that they contact CS.

And with that ... hopefully we haven't run Studebaker Hawk out of here.
