Hey guys, I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone know why the headstocks are all black now on the JP BFRs? I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing, was just interested in why the change was made. Thanks!

I believe it has to do with the matching of the dye due to the differences in wood between the body and the neck (headstock). The mahogany did not accept the colors the same way the maple cap did and it made a true match difficult, so they went with all black to eliminate the inconsistency.

I wish all the Balls came with a matching headstock and that a Natty was an option. I mean the upgrade charge is peanuts and I just think it makes the guitar look more uniformed. I know sometimes you grab what you are offered, but does anyone prefer a Natty on there guitar over a matching headstock.

My tobaccoburst Axis looks better with natural headstock.
It depends on the finish I think.

They announced this a long time ago. I don't know the exact reason but in my opinion it is not a big change at all.

it really does depend on the guitar. For example, Green Axis= matching headstock. I wouldn't have it any other way. Green Axis Sport= natty and I think it would look stupid with a matching headstock.

This is spot on.

Tobacco burst is the only option which will still have a matching headstock. (Was JP BFR Tobacco discontinued?)

For me it depends on the guitar, but sometimes I do. With a maple fretboard, I definitely prefer natty; with rosewood I like both natty and matching.

With the BFRs, I generally like the finished non-natty headstock. On the JP BFRs, I really like the black.
