Having owned both, I really can't see the benefit of the Axis vs. the SS. You get the coil tap options plus no cumbersome locking nut/string retainer and string changes are breezier. With the locking tuners the tuning stability is amazing enough for me.

I'm just wondering why some may prefer the regular Axis.

with the floyd it is a different tone. Not better or worse in my opinion but it's different. It feels a bit different with both trems also. I like both of course:D

It's been quite a while since I owned my Axis so please describe what exactly you mean by "different" in terms of tone. Thanks.

Slappy,

I prefer the Axis for the opposite reasons as you mentioned. Not that they are benefits, just preferences.

Toggle switch vs. slide, etc. . . , and actually I prefer the look of the Axis.

I think the Axis has maybe a bit more sustain and mid tone that the SS. Not much but it just feels slightly different. I think the SS does not have the tilted neck either.

I'm with TNT's last bit - I have an SS, SSMM90 and an Axis. Totally agree that the SS is the best all-rounder; great stability with the locking tuners & MM trem.

Yet... the Axis just has that R'n'R simplicity in controls/selectors etc. and in my opinion, just *looks* right

My first Axis was an SS then its been all Axis after that. Personal preference.

Same reasons as TNT wrote. The Axis looks are killer where as the SS is pretty.

appart from the extra pups option you also have the no tone button to the Axis that add a personal touch to the sound

ASS is a very versatile instrument, the Axis has a more characteristic sound

Having had both, I prefer the Axis at this point. While the Floyd can be a pain, I like having the ability to have the D-Tuna as an option, and prefer the simplicity of the 3 way toggle and "tone" knob.

And I agree it "looks" the part of a killer axe. I plan on adding another one at some point.

If you don't do whammy pyrotechnics and don't need the stability that comes with a Floyd, the ASS is probably the way to go. Tonally it's more versatile and will feel virtually the same. I've not had the chance to compare the straight humbucker tone between the two. I'm sure there are some subtle differences that could be crucial for some folks.

It isn't a "better" or "worse" thing. As others have said, it's all preference. Thank goodness for options!

The Axis has more note definition because of the floyd but the supersport has more of a honk to it i think.

The SS is a much more versatile guitar soundwise, and the Axis is more of a rock guitar, with the brighter sound of the whammy bridge and the hotter output due to no tone pot. They complement each other very well, so nice having both.

yeah, the reflex is really a different animal. I prefer the regular axis, it just seems to have some extra mojo about the tone. I have an HH AL and a Sport and they are amazing as well... but the Axis has IT... I couldn't tell you exactly what IT is, but there is something about the Axis that keeps me coming back.

For me I like the Axis best as it is very simple.:D
I love the one 3 way switch and the Floyd is easy to deal with because it rests on the top (mine is blocked so it wont bang the top of the guitar if I slip off the bar).
Cheers

Sit back my friends and let me introduce you to Megan Fox. This beauty has bone crushing hardtail tone, without all those "crazy wires" to get in the way. :)

Thanks. This one I actually leave in the case when I'm not playing, just because they fade pretty easily from that era.

I'm having great time playing my SS, I'd like to have an Axis too (it looks amazing), but the tones and the fixed bridge are all the things I need now.
I posted on my myspace a couple of video with my ball!!
