Hi together,

i have an olp Petrucci guitar which has to be setup.
I just bought it as used from ebay.
The strings are to high at this moment.
Could someone post some pictures of his olp???
- sideview
- backside
How many springs are at the tremolo (backside of the guitar)? I ve only 2.
In which position is the tremolo in a good setup?
Which DiMarzio bridge pickup you would suggest for this guitar?
I already got new tuners (Schaller M6 locking tuners).

Any help would be very fine...
Thank you in advance to everyone for their help!!!

Regards,
Mike

You should know that Petrucci never used an OLP.
OLP was a cheap overseas budget licensed copy of an EBMM.

I don't know if EBMM even supports them anymore as the company is long gone.

Contact customer service to find out.

My advice is to take it to a reputable tech and let him set it up for you.

Upgrading an OLP is a double edged sword. It will never increase the value and after you have played the OLP you want the origional. I own an OLP Petrucci and I got lucky. It's a great player. If you want to upgrade the guitar to be playable in a gig situation, you'd need to replace the tremolo (or just block the tremolo and change the saddles as I have), nut, tuners, pickups and electronics. I'm getting my EBMM Petrucci soon. It's a terrible GAS enduser.

And Like Azazael said, you should take it to a tech who knows his stuff. I've heard horror stories of OLPs that cannot be intonated because the trem is too far ahead or back. Mine is intonated fine. + Pics won't do you any good. Every guitar is different and you might not be able to setup up your guitar the same as in the pictures. Hope that made sense, my english is terrible... : D

Before you spend any more cash on it. It could be an idea to just get shot of it.
Put the extra money towards a Sterling JP50.

That's what I'd do if I lived in the states. Finland is a different place (much more expensive and rare to find, not ranting about it though.)

Hi Music Mike and welcome to the forum.
A mate of mine has an OLP Axis and it is a fine guitar for the money and would be a great guitar for you to learn set up techniques.
The trem plate has to be set flush with the body and you ensure that this is spot on by using a straight edge such as a 6 inch metal ruler. I use 3 springs in my JP6

It's a good mod to go for the locking tuners but as people have said maybe keep your money instead of shelling out on new pickups - certainly the pickups in the OlP Axis are great for the money.

A great book explaining guitar set ups and one that concentrates on electric guitars is this one
[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Make-Electric-Guitar-Great-Player/dp/0879306017/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277926194&sr=1-2]How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great! Guitar Player Book: Amazon.co.uk: Dan Erlewine: Books[/ame]

Hope you get it set up just nice.

I agree totally. I bought a new OLP Petrucci and upgraded but never got anywhere near what I paid for it. It all depends what tone you're after for the p/ups. If you're after a Petrucci tone, go with the Luquifire in the neck, and the Crunch Lab in the bridge. Also replace your volume & tone pots (they'll be long shaft) and your output jack. My OLP was a nice guitar and played well, but they save money by using cheap electronic components. I was after a heavy sound so went for the EMG ZW set which worked and sounded fine. Having said that, now that I have the real deal the difference is mind blowing. You can sit there for hours just stroking the untreated neck... or maybe that's just me...

Why should he know? OLP was an entry level instrument.

EB never supported them. The company that liscensed them will support them

Doo not contact ebmm customer service. We are not involved.

Now onto the olp Dont sink a lot of money into it...get it playing good and if you like it then try to make the progression to the Sterling By Music Man or the real deal thanks

He asked for pics of Petrucci's OLP in his post. I was clarifying that he never played one although if I remember he did do a marketing campaign for them.

That is what I was responding to. You never know the BS he was told by the seller...

As for contacting customer service.

I advised him to contact to ask the status if it was supported or not to clarify if it was or not as I was not speaking on behalf of your company.

I'm not a mod and I try not to "armchair mod".

I was hoping that as it was 6 days since the last post, that this would slip into the sunset.

Personally I don't like seeing personal attacks on the forum - I have opinions on this but keep them to myself rather than stir up a hornets nest.

What I would prefer here is to let this slip away quietly and for the protagonists to take this off line - sort it out and come back later when it has been sorted.

I know that this attitude has pi55ed off some forum members including BP.

I'd hate to see people turn their back on the forum or perish the thought for BP to pull the plug on it if he finds that it's getting on his nerves. He's got more important things to worry about.

So just to reiterate - I know I'm sailing close to the wind (armchair mod) but please guys go outside Poppas place sort it out and come on back in when it has been sorted.

(sorry BP but it's getting on my nerves too)

Let me tell you- I hate deleting posts and censoring people. But personal attacks and BS will NOT be tolerated on this board.

If you guys have problems that you can't sort out in PMs, get a mod involved.
