I predict LightGroove will own a Bongo within the next 2 years. That is the nature of the stereotypical Bongo owner, isn't it?

life cycle of Bongo haters:
(first sees Bongo) "eww...what is EBMM thinking?"
(time passes, several sweet Bongo photos viewed) "they aren't so bad, I guess, but they aren't for me"
(plays first Bongo, out of curiosity) "HOLY !@#%%^&*!!!!! I swear I didn't know!"
(unable to elude the GAS, buys a Bongo) "Best bass evar!!11!1"

Of course, I liked Bongos from the start, but I guess I am weird that way.

Y'know what's cool about this thread?

That it is allowed to exist.

I wonder how many manufacturers would simply have deleted those comments... never mind having the head of the company chip in an be the voice of reason.

This is a good, good place.

there are a few guitar players bashing us

That's rather sad...........but then again guitar players ALWAYS (well quite often maybe) bash bass players and drummers et al - most especially with their volume :D

I think he is warming up to the Bongo

Everyone warms to the Bongo - I put it down to A Douglas's special mind ray machine. I don't even own one but would love to. To quote the OP they are adorable.

I sent Jack a couple of Bongos last year and he was sooo appreciative that he sent me an original Dargie, 1 of 3 in 5HS form. How cool was that!

Yes, there's a minor tradition of forumites passing basses around.

When I got all curious about the H Bongo a few years back Mobay45 sent me his, just to try out.

Just shows the quality of people we've got around here.

markbass99, you sent me quite the bongo! It is my one and only and I believe it to be best bass on the planet, THANKS! Lightdude, I didn't like the bongo that much when I first saw a picture. You have to play one or you are really missing out on an incredible instrument. The neck is to die for!!! And then there are those 2 9v batteries  :D :p

What I've found interesting about this thread is how a negative comment leads to an outpouring of positive ones which ends up enhancing the Bongo's allure.

Thats true. Starting with my wife, women all seem to react positively to my Bongo. I don't know if it's the organic, curvy shape or what but IME, "Chicks dig the Bongo!"

This reminded me- I've worked a project fronted by a very talented (and HOT!!!) Female Vocalist...
Now she's a great performer, but she has an attitude, and could rightly claim the title of a "Major DIVA!!!"
We all have issues; luv 'ya Michelle!!:) Sure helps pay the bills.

My point is that she seems to regard her sidemen as a necessary evil, and kind of ignores us except to tell us what to do with a song & when. That's perfectly fine, no issues with that. And needless to say, she hardly cares about or notices our backline or our gear; maybe as it should be!

But lo and behold, first time I brought the Bongo to rehearsal, I got a
"That's a really nice bass, I like that one!" out of her.

Believe me, we were all somewhat astounded by this!

It's true!!

I'm thinking thats a pretty accurate description of how it goes !

I've never been a Bongo hater but, if you Bongo collectors can believe this - I've only ever seen two of the things in real life - and I played both of them - one a 4 and one a 5. The 4 was lava pearl - my god I had trouble restraining my wallet - it was a beauty!! A follow up play on a Big Al, and then a 25th, did not avert my thoughts from that Bongo either.

I would definitely say I'm now 'Bongo curious' if that is the correct phrase! It's sort of the level prior to GAS I'd say.
