A quick little behind the scenes video. Thought it would be cool to take everyone to work with me, and let you guys see a bit of what my world is like. Mostly its lots of waiting around, goofing off, and a small amount of actual playing. This was shot Saturday at Blackbird Studios in Nashville. Major gear porn studio (lookout for the Fairchild!). I fear that these big killer facilities will be a thing of the past with all of us being able to come close to this quality in out garages. There is nothing like working in one of these joints though, and no plug in sounds just like a real Fairchild compressor. At this session we were recording a bunch of old r&b classics as backing tracks for a vegas show. The reflex was just the ticket, it was fairly painful to go a whole day without playing the bongo though. I shot this on my cell phone so, sorry for the less than stellar video quality, but you get the idea.

Way cool, Craig! Great video and the "reading the score" scene really made me laugh out loud :D ... the sound is again the Reflex with the "all switches up" setting, the two inner coils of the humbuckers?

Kewl, Craig. Just another day at the office, huh?

I've done just enough recording to know that it is an entirely different discipline
(double-meaning intended) than live performance, and once the cans are on, you're in the bright- light where every blemish shows, and being in-the-pocket takes on a whole new dimension.
I do business (MI biz) with Nashville and Tennessee has been very, very good to me. Love to visit, but frankly you guys SCARE with me with your laid-back demeanor and insanely good chops! Think I'll stay in L.A. where there's lots of good old-fashioned B.S. and great Mexican food.

Thanks for providing that clip, and if I'm ever down that way, I'm gonna bring you a Guitar Stand....:D

He dont need no stinkin BASS stand......it's a reflex....it stands on its own

OK then; I'll tell your FINISH DEPARTMENT, who lovingly spent hours applying that Gold coat, that the Owner says not to worry; the instruments are going to sit on the floor, or a chair, or a stool and get road-worn anyway!!!

Yeah, that's what I'll tell 'em.....

It's a kewl story; Randy sent me that pic, and another with Ringo-along with an audiotape.

When the you-know-who's came to Minneapolis Cousin Randy (a superlative, genius guitarist -retired; now living Paris France-2 tours with John Mayall,-Larry Taylor Bass; Pure Food & Drug Act with the great SugarCane Harris (RIP), John Klemmer- Bonjour Randy!)

Anyhoo- He was working doing PR then for the Music Store that carried "those guitars" and one was presented to George-
Later I saw a hand-written note on NEMS stationary personally thanking him for the gift, and telling him that he liked "those" guitars, and would use it in the studio.
Way cool, considering at the height of BeatleMania, they were pretty busy, as well as showered with such gifts. Not sure of the year, but it was later 60's something.

The audiotape played George saying "Very nice, thank-yew" in Liverpool accent.
Wish I was there....
Now I really feel like having chorizo and eggs for B-fast! ha

wow man, that is insanely cool. the closest ive been to the beatles is getting to work with the musicians that either work with them, or are friends of theirs. the records i did with ray davies, and peter frampton were good for some really inside stories. playing with keltner was heavy too. ive worked at abbey road, and air (george martins place), and got a signed pic of sir george, but never quite made it all the way into paul or ringos band yet. hopefully someday i get there. come on bp, make some phone calls!!

HA! At the time, Randy was "just a keed" early 20's or sumthin'
playing with a big-time local band- "Froggie and his Friends".
The days.
Of course he later evolved into playing Coltrane on guitar; and altho a major PITA like so many brilliant players can be, he was a great mentor/teacher/friend and of course cuz to me. His brother, Art is just as mad-skilled on piano, and has played with among others Rufus Reid. Not too shabby, he has a very Bill Evans-vibe to his style.

Yes, to "Meet The Beatles" (better than to beet the meatles)
George was obviously a very gracious person and a very under-rated guitarist and songwriter. RIP.

OK The closest I have with the Beatles.....
John Lennon called my dad once.
George Harrison sent me a thank you note for a silhouette I sent him in the late 80's at Albert Lees request...he signed it "all the best" and below his sig was a little ukelele scribble that had become part of his signature.

Paul let me play the Hofner. I looked like a cheap 50's motel bed that someone put a roll of quarters in. (obscure for you young uns.) I went to LA in 1992 I think to see Paul with my wife. I was talking to the tech and asking him if Linda was a drag...this was when the monitor mix tapes of her singing were being distributed.
He said she was the mother to all on the tour and loved by all. I met her and believed it. Once again someone who I thought I didn't like ended up being fabulous.

The great thing about Sir Paul was that if you got backstage it meant something. Quality time. He was really interested in my father and said he wanted to meet him He knew a lot about my dad. He met my wife and was really nice and actually talked to both of us.

It was such a great experience that I got tickets for Phoenix which was a week later...
we are hanging backstage kind of trying to stay out of the way.....Here comes Paul.....

He walks up to my wife and says "Hello Stacey, luv" "Great to see you again Sterling"

Most of the rock stars I have met and I've met most of them are disposable self important weasels. I was profoundly affected by the courtesy and normalcy of Sir Paul Mc Cartney.
