input on flatwounds

I'm looking at trying out a set of flatwounds on my 09 stingray single h. any advice on what you feel are the best set to use for the ultimate experience in the flatrwound world for this bass. name brand and sizes.... thanks

A lot of people really enjoy Ernie Ball Group III flats. They have a good balance between tone, tension and flexibility.

I use Group IIs on a non-EBMM bass. They have fairly high tension, which I like, but not a lot of other people do. If you prefer higher tension, the Group IIs are a great way to go. Otherwise, the Group IIIs should do just fine for you.

No problem. But when you put them on give them some time... even if you're iffy on them just be patient. They settle in and unlike rounds, get better with time.

If you think you want more thump try Group IIs.

I've tried a variety of flats on a variety of 'Rays, but my current setup is also my favorite: Group II's on my 2-band 'Ray. Sounds both punchy and round.

I've tried the group 2s, 3s, and 4s. I prefer the Group 3's, myself.

I'm pretty sure that there is just the one 5 string set, the 2810s.

.045 .065 .080 .100 .130 which is essentially Group IIIs with a low B added.



You could always buy a set of Group IVs, and then purchase a single .130 B string to go with it. I know you can order the single strings from Just Strings, and I'm sure some of the dealers here carry single strings, too.
