Help! first ding

Hey Fellers:
Just found my first ding on the top of my 25th. Kind of proud that it took over a year, and I have no idea what hit it,but it's very shallow next to the bridge pickup. Any suggestions, other than crying?

It's all good my friend. I know it's painful at first, but look at Steve Morse's #1 . Sh*t happens, but the guitar will still sound the same and give you plenty of joy.

Most of the dings on my guitars are from the strap. When setting the guitar in the stand, the strap would fall onthe body and the adjuster mechanism would hit the body.

Even after 30 years of playing guitar I still do it to this day.

If you drop it on the floor and ding it again the first one won't hurt so badly (the first one is always the worst).

Sorry to hear about the ding. It hurts when something like that happens.
I could have killed a bass player last night at our gig. We were the house band and during the break the mike is open to people who want to jam. Our bass player lent his bass to this guy who at the end just plonked it down. As I went onto the stage the bass had fallen onto my AL. I said to him "Hey man how about being a bit more careful?" He picked the bass up and demonstrated what he had done and guess what - the bloody thing fell over again and hit my AL.
Small guy with a short fuse that's me and I tell ya what, the way I felt he would soon be spitting teeth Glad to say the the (BCB) AL has led a charmed life and there wasn't a mark on it - I think the bass hit the my strap button - twice!!

Hey Pat - I was always prone to doing that - I now have a strap that is just a single piece of leather with no buckles to cause any damage.

My 2 month old Axis came with a nice scrap on the back near the bottom strap button. They took $75 off. So I got my first blemish out of the way before I even played it.

Well, I'm a player, not a collector, and this was the perfect guitar for last weekends gig. I knew it was inevitable,but this guitar was totally pristine except for a few pick marks up till then. Could have left her in her case and took a battered F or G instrument and postpone the first ding a while longer, I suppose, but this has become my number one favorite guitar for everything but country, and I rarely tackle country. I 'll show it to my guitar guy and see if he can fix it, or just live with it.

i love my y2d but i know the day is going to come where it gets a ding im so careful not to but if history repeats itself and as much as i play i know it will happen. I will be upset for a while but every guitar needs battle scars i guess. look what Stevie Ray did to his and steve moreses guitars hes put some wear and dings on them.

Dings happen! I've had my 25th for a while. No marks on it yet! Except for Tommy Emmanuel's signature on the back.

OS did it go down to the wood or just the clearcoat? I figure you will have a knot in your stomach for 3 days, and then it will start to diminish.I also will guarantee that the guitar will also get played harder and more aggressively too, as the fear of something happening to it is gone. Keep on Rocking!

got a chip in my luke. it was fine when it was put in the case and the next time i took it out there it was. i wouldn't mind so much if there were more dinks cause it looks weird with just one.
i thought maybe i'd ask ebmm for a small vial of the same paint or go looking in a hardware store. candy apple. but it chipped to the wood

I can relate to the one ding on a pristine looking guitar having that weird look. About ten years ago I had bought a new Strat, and just like you stated when I put it down there was nothing wrong. The next day my wife handed me a half inch chip of finish she found on the floor that was shaped like the state of Texas lol,and asked if it belonged to my guitar. To this day I have no idea how the hell it happened as it seemed to fall out perfectly right to the wood, the only good thing was that it was on the bottom, and with a little crazy glue fit perfectly back in that no one can even tell. Though today that ax has more than its share of dents and dings which gives it that nice broken in look.

Sometimes if you come across the right kind of decal it can work wonders to cover a nasty ding on the face of a guitar.

Now, your guitar is truly your own. After 9 years, my Morse has a few dings. It means that I use it. Guitar are made to be played.
