EB Group III Flats and Stingrays

Ive got a few sets of these now and Im going to put one of my 2 Band Ray once the stock strings die off. I realise its through the bridge with these.

Question:

If you have a Classic Ray/old Ray or another bass that's through body stringing, is it safe to use the EB Group III Flats?

I realise they are on more of an angle. Im assuming as Ive not heard otherwise, it works fine through body or through bridge?

Group 3s work well on the 30th SR, which is string through. I have them on mine right now.

Yep...Group III's worked fine on my through the body Classic 4... no problemo...I jump back and forth between these and the new coated...love the feel of the flats but more aggressive tone of the rounds...

+1 to what's been said. I have flats on a Classic Sterling with no problems. Remember, flats don't sound as good as rounds when it's just you and your bass, but in a band situation, flats sit SO well in the mix because you aren't fighting with the guitar to be heard. Also, your frets will last longer!

Weirdly, Ive heard 'ahem' other brands dont like to be strung through the body. TIs and La Bellas can apparently 'snap', but I dont see why flats should and rounds dont?

The angle doesnt seem that steep.

Flats CAN be stiffer and less flexible. I've had TIs break on me a couple times (not because of STB bridges).

I think the EB flats are cool with this. EB also Engineers/tests their basses to work with their strings and vice versa from what I've been told.

Worst case you snap a string, but I think group IIIs are pretty commonly used.

And they sound superawesomefantastical on (Bill's) the 30th.

Really? I've had TI Flats on three string thru '51 style P basses, a string thru Gibson Ripper and two string thru Stingrays (a pre-EB and a 30th Anniversary). Never had a string 'snap'.

I played the 30th with group 3 flats at church today. Contemporary rock type worship. Big room, seats about 1000. Wow, the definition of each note was really nice. Lots of smooth punch and deep bass when called upon. I had a great drummer, too, which always makes us bass players sound better, too.

Seem like those who did snap other brands may have fitted them incorrectly or had a weak batch.
