When Trans Orange and Hugger Orange Meet

After 10 years My father in law completed an amazing restoration of his rare and highly sought after 1970 Dodge Charger. He had dreamed of owning this car as a teenager and when he was finally able to buy one, they were near impossible to find. My wife and I stored this car for a few years when we first were married. It was a huge hulk of rust and ruin. Over the past decade, her father spent his weekends and many evenings painstakingly bringing this this car back to life from the frame up. We are all really proud of what he accomplished as this was the first car he ever restored and has become part of the family over the years.

After dinner tonight I realized how sweet my Trans Orange Ray would look next to the car done up in Hugger Orange and could not resist a little photo session of my own. So here they are, two classics looking fabulous!

That is a great looking Mopar, and an excellent looking Ray. I am a huge Mopar fan, my first two cars were a '71 Challenger hardtop, and a '70 Challenger 'vert. Should have never sold either one of them, considering what they would be worth now.....

However, "Hugger Orange" is a Chevy color. The 1970 Dodge color was just "orange". Sorry to nit-pick.

I should probably take a few pics of my new silver Big Al 5 along side my 1969 Cortez Silver Corvette, come to think of it. If the weather cooperates tomorrow, I'll do it!

Okay, I'm about to seriously date myself here.

I vividly remember a Barracuda commercial in which the young guy who had just bought one (bright green, as I recall, but I might be wrong about that) was giving his mother a ride.

She was going on about the "torsion barbers for the superspension."

Anyone else remember that?

Actually the color was researched at length to match the car from the Dukes of Hazzard. From what we learned, Hugger Orange was actually an AMC color used on the the tv series for the Chargers. Certainly not an original Mopar color but recognizable to so many as being associated to this car. The tv show car was actually a 1969 but the 1970 is almost the same with the only difference being the front grill.

My father in law's car is collectible in the sense that it meets with government standards to qualify for collectible status but the engine (440) came from another car. I kind of thought he should go for a stock color at first but once I saw it in person, the "wow" factor is pretty high! he can't drive it anywhere without heads turning, and of course the horn plays "Dixie"

This one is for you sb69coupe and any other Mopar fans out there. It's a shame I don't own a purple bass to go with the theme for my Challenger:

Funny thing is my father in law is wrestling with the idea of selling his car as he has been offered an astounding amount of money for it. He figures if he sells it for the offered price, he could retire 2 years early and buy a brand new Challenger. Tough call after all the work that went into the Charger.

No cool cars for me until the kids are grown but I can take comfort in my small fleet of Balls!!!

That's awesome! I knew what to expect just from reading the title of this thread. I have a fondness for Dodge and Plymouth muscle cars, and the 1970 Charger is one of my all-time favorites.

I wouldn't mind getting a red/black EBMM to match my 340 Dart Sport (stroked to 418cid, 500hp/530ftlbs, a total snot monster and a blast to drive).

I've got a Black Sugar/Roasted Maple on order that I'll be posting pictures of with my Mopar from '68...
