I ordered a Music Man Bongo 5HH, Sapphire Black, Black Pearl pickguard sometime before June and I've been waiting for months. I called the dealer (Bassdirect.co.uk) and I was told that the bass was completed a few weeks ago but its still in the states D: tits, if i haven't already paid the deposit, i'd have cancelled it and bought a stock Rickenbacker D: i dont have patience :(

You should press your distributor for a delivery date - they will want to look after you.

And be patient - you will be pleased with the outcome - quite frankly the difference between a Ricken**ck*r and a Bongo will be like chalk and cheese.(apologies to any who are lovers of that brand here, but I have heard them referred to as Clanken**ck*r - I guess because they are noted for warm bassy tone or full on clank)

Rule of thumb on orders is around 90 days, although it can be shorter/longer depending on many variables. You're still in the general timeframe?

I'm completely in the dark about how things move from here to there, but I have to assume by ship rather than mailed one by one and carried on airplanes (which would make no economic sense). I also have to assume that they don't load ships with one completed bass. They probably wait for two or three, eh?

I'd think waiting a few "extra" weeks to get a Bongo 5HH versus a Ric would be a no-brainer, but then I'm kind of partial to Bongos.

In my contract of Music Man bass on order is very clear statement signed by my official EBMM dealer with date above: "...delivery period will be approximately 3 months..." ;)

It will only be a bit longer . It will be worth the wait. You can make it!

I find the wait is the longest when it approaches the completion date or when they say it is in transit. Patience will be well rewarded. What's a week or two extra in the grand scheme of things? It probably has to clear customs and as Bovine mentioned, they probably ship a bunch at the same time so that might be causing a bit of an extra delay.

90 days is probably possible in the US, but not internationally. Some distributors wait until they can fill up a full container for shipping (as "on a ship"). I waited over 8 months for a custom ordered StingRay to be delivered to Switzerland. And I've waited almost 6 months for two others. Delivery to Europe is not the fastest.

Be patient, it will be well worth the wait! I ordered my Stingray Classic in April and received it in July but I am also in the States so the delivery time was much quicker but even if the wait was a year, it would have been well worth it. I too have a Bongo on order now and won't get it until around November or December. Sure, I wish I had it today but it gives me something to look forward to. In the meantime, I simply play my other Music Man basses.

I ordered my Ray 5 HS a fair few months ago, and it turned up very recently. I think you are looking at a normal wait of 3-4 months, especially in the UK.

I also have a 3 band 4 H incoming, which has been on order about 2 months I guess, but Im not fussed about the wait as it gives you something to look forward to.

I might be ordering a Big Al 4 SSS for my 30th Birthday which is March 2011, so Im going to be safe and put a deposit down probably before the end of this month. That means it should be here Jan 2011 at the latest.

What makes it worth the wait is the fact its built for you, without the rush. Yes, shipping adds time to this, but the fact there is a waiting list must mean these instruments are fantastic.

There is a lack of Bongos and Big Als in the UK which is a shame, but what it does allow is time to save the cash!

I waited two years before the right SR5 for me appeared on eBay (just last week).

The SR5 went unsold, and because the seller was local, I offered him a price less than the starting price, but more than he would have received after eBay fees. A win-win for both of us!

I prefer face-to-face, cash transactions anyways, because you get to try before you buy ...

I'm perfectly happy with pre-owned instruments for the great bargains you can find :)
