i have really been fortunate, and gotten to play on a ton of cool stuff. theres a bunch, but ill just give you some off the top of my head...

elton john, earth wind and fire, jessica simpson (she also recorded a song i wrote called "loving you" on her 4X multi platinum "in this skin" record. all the lady antebellum stuff, peter framptons new record, michael mcdonald, ray davies (the kinks singer for you youngins') newest record, clarence "citizen cope" greenwood, cardigans, wynnona, megadeath, indigo girls, etc. like i said in a previous post, of all of those, im most proud of a record i did called "the luxury of time", by david mead. also a singer songwriter named sean mcconnell, that has some insanely great tunes. the tunes, the tunes, the tunes.... its all i care about. i care less whos behind the mic.

So, can I namedrop if I make it backstage at the Megadeth/Slayer/Anthrax show in a couple of weeks, or will Dave Mustaine punch me in the throat for bringing you up? :D

my most prized possession in this world is an autographed copy of the ricksters album that i worked on, which reads,

Dear Craig,
"F@CK STING" Love,
Rick Astley

truly one of the most beautiful, hysterical, rick astley loathing, human beings ive ever met. i also produced joey mac from new kids on the block, hahah. hey, they cant all be hits!

(i suggested rick sing a bit "like sting" during tracking, and that was his response. we all fell out of our chairs. good times. miss that dude.)

he begged them not to make him do that song. they absolutely forced him and said, you will sing it, you will shoot the video, or we will drop you. period. im telling you.... NO ONE hates that tune more than him, especially since his worst nightmares ALL came true over it. poor guy.

He needs to wear it like a mantle, proud and strong. I mean that, too. Someone asked Jimmy Buffett one time about "Margaritvalle" or another one of those typical Buffett tunes. Didn't he get tired of playing it ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME? And he said, "Well, it paid off my house in Florida and another in Mississippi and ten cars and -"

'Course, no one forced him to do Margaritaville, so maybe it's slightly different.

Astley's "Cry For Help" is a great song. I've really enjoyed your posts here.

Most of the Old Blues Dudes I play with would kill for one crossover tune. Thinking about it, so would I :)

He had nightmares over 2 decades ago that he'd become one of the biggest Internet memes there is? Before Al Gore even invented the Internet?

:p

I'm not a big pop music/radio guy, but I have to admit that Lady Antebella tune has been a guilty pleasure of mine a bit recently. Nice work! Is that a different take though? I think some of the slide guitar phrases are different, the ending in particular.

Craig - thanks for posting - your posts are always really interesting and fun at the same time...................I admit to having a vinyl of Rick Astley's Stock Aitken and Waterman album from 1985 ish with Never Gonna Give You Up on - back from the days my ex wife loved him. If you play it at 45 rpm it sounds like Kylie Minogue and if you play her 45s from the era at 33 they sound like Rick - one of the more off the wall DJs of the time used to demo this point on BBC radio. I guess these guys were pop products of the time, in the same way there have always been and continue to - his story was sad though.

Rick's voice is great - good to hear about him.

And DTG - that blue dawn Ray 5 is so cool I might even put a white pearloid plate on my SR4.

ok, I just listened to your link again, and it sounds like an altogether different guitar part. This one is all slide, and I'm sure there's more non-slide guitar stuff in the radio version.

Not surprised there are different versions.....I just like hearing myself talk/type sometimes I guess, haha!

Wow. This is a whole different song for me now. Formerly, I found it quite annoying because it was on my 14 year old daughters "frequent" playlist. I didn't listen very closely, because it was, you know...annoying. Sitting down and listening to the bass part has changed it for me now! I'll welcome it when she plays it now.
