I've heard it said so many times but I didn't get it through my thick skull. It wasn't until I listened to the whole band intently while I was playing that I realized why the low mids work so well - there isn't a whole lot going on down there. So I finally boosted the low mids (and dialed in some piezo)

I, the audience and band members all could hear and feel the bass this time. I got more compliments than ever (wasn't necessarily playing any better, I just think I could be heard).

Yes, it isn't the best solo sound (scooped is great for that), but damn does it cut through a mix and sound good fingerstyle *when the band is playing*

Ok, I love the Bongo so much right now ... as does my wife. That low mid is the money knob (as is the piezo, but I won't torture those who don't have that option)

Started doing that a couple of years ago. Glad I did! I also discovered the joys of flats today, but that's another thread! :D

The mids are, quite literally, the most critical frequencies in getting a good bass tone. Period.

Ah, keep experimenting. There are special things in the mid to low mid range. I'm not a fan of the scooped sound whatsoever. Why is it that every time someone is doing a 'slap thing' they feel they also have to have that scooped sound? Give me a nice '70's fat mid-range sound for slap any day.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Many folks never learn about the Bongo.

listened to the recording of the gig ... not enough cut

time to boost the low mids a bit more

or cut the bass

or boost the piezo

or tweak the pickup pan

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh so many variables

of course, if the soundman would turn me up that would help too

:D

I really like the 4 band EQ on the Bongo. Wish the single H had that option as well.

Glad to hear that, as far as I remember I told You something according this low mid matter in one of Your previous posts?

Anyway, I can't wait for my incoming Reflex, to confirm cut through and low mid theory in praxis! :p

P.S. ...I hope that center frequencies of Reflex EQ are not far away from Bongo EQ! ;)
