Guitar Aficianado quoated Billy Gibbons about a Japanese Gentleman

that offered Gibbons 5 mil for the Pearly Gates. Of course the offer

was declined. Now this story makes me wonder about a lot of things.

#1 is it true?

#2 Does the offer increase each time the story is told?

#3 Who lost out on this deal?

#4 is this a marketing ploy for the reissue?

#5 Would the gentleman take my JP MM for 4 Mil?

are you sure about the currency?

5 Million yen maybe that's make the guitar around 50 000$ which makes more sense for a guitar

even Clapton's blackie never went that high...

I'm trully convinced that some EVH will be sold with a 5 digit number in the not so far future

well for that price the Japanese Gentleman could have bought the pearly gate reissue, bring Billy Gibbons in a studio to record with it and still save 2 or 3 millions ahahahah

this is just ridiculous

so to answer your #3 remark keeping your favorite guitar is priceless so I don't think Billy Gibbons is the looser :p

He paid $250.00 to a Rancher outside Houston Tex. who quit playing

guitar to wrestle cow's and happend to have it under his bed unplayed.

The Japanese Gentleman i think offered the 5 Mil to Gibbons before the

reissue was issued. Now that begs the question is the reissue of the

Pearly Gates really like the real Pearly Gates?

I heard the next offer was a pearl necklace.
Seriously, who gives a s**t. It's not even EBMM.

LMFAO, Stratty I think Custom 53 had been waiting patiently for this moment and it was funny.

Yes that is what some Japanese collector offered him 5 million, as I read the same issue and believe Billy Gibbons has no reason to lie. I guess when you weigh in all the factors of it being a 50 year old guitar that only something like 1,500 were made, and then the rockstar ownership it does not seem that crazy.

Mojo the reissue is what Fender and Gibson do today to butter their bread=relic. They take his guitar and copy every scratch, ding and dent and then gouge some collectors eyes out. I just had to google the original prices and found out their were three different relics of this ax priced 11K,15K and 25K.

This is why I rant about the whole real intent of these relics as they are made for a market that consist of the super wealthy collector. But both companies have just about emptied all their guns as they have done one for just about every superstar artist in their histories, so now where do they go, since neither one has made any new significant guitars in over 40 years.

custom53 ... don't forget the part where we ask for no armchair modding ...

O/T discussion is ok, but let's also remember that this is a corporate forum so we don't really want to use up a lot of bandwidth discussing the competitor's guitars. So let's try and downplay that bit.

As for Billy G ... seems to me that you can't believe most of the stories you hear.

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
Since we are a bit off-topic here...:D

In 1984, the Gillette Company reportedly offered Gibbons and Hill $1 million each to shave their beards for a television commercial. They allegedly declined, saying "We're too ugly without 'em."

I would let Stratty and Buckethead shave my back for $20! I'll wait for your PM's boys;)

BTW, I personally thought that the Colonoscopy thread was very informative;)

Peace!

Hey, We talk about you and your not a Music Man Guitar ! The thread is

marked "Off Topic" This was a plug to unload my MM JP for 4 Mil.

I love Billy Gibbons and the entire Texas Blues thing. The point of the

story is the price of a guitar is what someone is willing to pay for it.

I do not think him signing the reissue is worth an extra 10 g's though.

Correct...! And I'm glad someone could see the humour in it. I love my EBMMs but there should be another link here where "some" of us can talk about any kind of musical gear (I love my Gibsons and Marshalls also)... But I know a lot of the mentality here is, "It's my ball and we will play what I want to play" After visiting here I feel like an "elitist snob" whenever I talk about my EBMMs to my musician friends..

just my 2 cents... Let the flaming begin...

It's for sure my fault for bringing it up. We can let the thread die

and move on. I don't feel so bad though knowing Stratty316's user

name is a bit "Off Topic" He could have just had a Diva moment

where he felt the need to correct. Correction "noted" :) I'm going

back to play my JP MM now. BTW which sounds better than any LP

I've ever touched.

Within reason. You're on a corporate forum ... bandwidth paid for by EBMM. They don't ask much of us ... except to try and not promote their competitor's products in the forum they support.

This is asking too much?

Back to the original thread topic ...
