i currently own 2 Stingrays. But i've always wanted to try out a bongo ever since i started playing bass and first visited the Music-Man website. Now the GAS is killing me and thinking of going to Guitar Center to sell one of my rays along with another bass and give that money to my dad so he can order me a
bongo 4 in black. Unfortunately the guitar center i go to in union Square never has bongos. So i'm kinda gambling on this one but i'm pretty sure i won;t regret this move. The only thing i'm worried about is that i've never really been a rosewood guy. i've always been a maple and Ebony lover. but with all i've Seen and heard plus 4 band EQ with 24 frets and super amazing power(and something to ebonize to the Fretboard) i thinkn i can get past that.

anyone think i should go through with this?

Well, yeah

Don't quote me on this, but I do believe that stealth Bongos come with ebony fingerboards. I don't like my bass to vanish on stage so I've never paid any attention to the details of the stealth finish.

Or, if you use Wonder Wipes on a regular basis your rosewood board will stay quite dark… though not quite black.

by a regular basis do you mean like every day or several times a week. By the way i have a question. even though the fretboard is rosewood i won't get lost in the mix right playing with a band? my ears have gotten used to the bright attack from my maple that cuts through the mix in my band.

LOL... when I say "vanish" I mean become impossible to SEE on stage. My band pays a lot of attention to how we look, and the instruments are part of it.

The Bongo will never disappear in the mix unless someone turns it all the way down.

Re the rosewood..."regular" means every time you change strings, which I do every six months or so.

Please, please, PLEASE don't sell your Ray to GC - you won't get anywhere close to what it's worth. Post it up here, craigslist, talkbass, eBay, etc.

I have a black w/ white pearloid stingray 5HH that's in brand new condition. I'm thinking of converting as well. If someone has a 5 string Bongo, I'd love to talk trade. :)

try suggesting a swap :)

there is always someone out there who wants "new blood" for an ole bongo.. hehehe

Keep one of the rays or you will miss its sound. The eq on the bongo will get as bright as you want it and then some. My stealth bongo has a rosewood fretboard but some have the ebony feature. You have to look for them. As far as disapearing on stage, play on stages that have lighting. It won't matter what color the bass is. I love black basses and I wear black when I play and nobody has ever told me they couldn't see me or my bass.

Not being a major fan of maple boards (i say that but just never found one that i like the feel of), a Black Ray with maple board is a classy looking combo so don't sell that one :p

Just joking with you as i not long put an ad up myself saying similar kind of thing, "Got two Stingrays and want a Bongo so one has got to go but which one ?" in the end neither, cant chose between the two so I'm keeping them both and putting all my spare ££ away till one does come along but if you can live with out one of yours then go for it, I'm just pretty close to both of mine to part with either so if did sell one to get something else then it would have to be something that going to be at a big advantage to me.
