What do my fellow Knuckleheads recommend to keep your machine heads and other various chrome bits shiny and bright on your EBMM bases. I noticed that on of my SR4's which I bought used has much duller looking tuning pegs and posts then my newer basses and just buffing them with a dry cloth doesn't seem to bring out much luster.

I'm not into the "relic" look but dont want to use anything too harsh. Any recommendations?

Some interesting suggestions. I will have to try some toothpaste although the fact that its full of sugar concerns me.

"Most brands of toothpaste contain not sugar but a very small amount of saccharin, about 0.2 percent of the total volume."

Never tried it on a bass, but 0000 fine steel wool works wonders on chrome bumpers, etc. on cars & motorcycles... but I'd stay away from the pups and be really careful around the painted finish if you did try it...

I use this stuff on the chrome on my EB's removes finger prints etc of chrome with out scratching and brings it up to a nice shine, a soft cloth to follow just to buff it up, or a jewellery cloth if you want to be really posh :p

If you've got rust or tarnish:
Early on in this bass game I bought a cheap, well used MM-style (but not MM) bass that had some rust on the exposed poles on the pickup, and tarnish on the bridge and elsewhere. I found that drum cymbal cleaner worked really well, but you have to be very careful with that stuff, its acid, man. Eats the calluses off your fingers as well, but I don't view that as a side benefit.

Some great ideas here. I will have to try a few things. I have steel wool that I have used to carefully buff up old frets but dont want it anywhere near my headstock.
