So the wife decided that 8 year old Jeremy has to take piano lessons even though he has no interest in it whatsoever. Okay, if he hates it, he can stop after a month or two, meanwhile I get to buy a Korg Triton. Win-win.

So the guy that shows up last Friday is kind of hip looking, we talk a little bit, he says his main gig is on bass. I said, "When you're done with the boy, I have something to show you."

I hear them having fun, learning the opening to Super Mario Bros. Maybe this will work out.

When they're done, I walk him into the hallway, where five or six Bongos, a 25th SR5 and the Big Al 5 SSS are loitering. He's speechless, then says, "I wondered where all the Guitar Center Bongos went."

So we talk for a while, how's the Bongo, you can play it, what's this, a Big Al, neato, I like these, etc etc. Finally he says, "Man, do you have a deal with Music Man or something?"

Jeremy is wandering by with a banana and says, "Sterling Ball is one of his buddies." Keeps walking, never ever blinks.

This guy is for sure like, "WTF."

:D

Great story! I've had to have an outside music teacher work with my kids. They won't listen to me - about anything, let alone music. You got a Korg out of the deal? Nice...

Go for a Roland RD-700SX, instead. Did the Triton thing. Like the simplicity of the RD. 88 weighted keys, too. Great for lessons.

I think I like that music teacher....seriously teaching Jeremy things that he likes is the right way

I think I like him, too, for exactly that reason. I don't think Jeremy will hang very long with it, but the guy zeroed right in on what the boy thought was cool.

Cool story. :D

Hope Jeremy will start to like the keyboard... sounds like the teacher is good to get him started into music. And you always wanted that Triton, didn't you. And it's time to start calling Jordan Rudess your buddy too ;)

Hahahahaha, Jack that is a great story man!!! My 9 year old has been playing violin for about a year now, her teacher started teaching her Disney tunes, she can put it down.

Jack,

I don't know how old you are, but being 37 I have that Super Mario Brothers theme ingrained in my head and it haunts me! But I am glad your son has a teacher who is willing to teach him stuff that will get him excited about learning music. When I think how much further along I could be if I had only had a teacher who listened to me, it's tough. But at least I still love music and have stuck with it, so it worked out in the end.

Thanks for sharing,

LEL

Sounds like fun! I have been trying drums with my kid, and I think he needs a real teacher.

BTW, there are new Super Mario games, and my kid and his friends all play them.
