hey guys
2 questions
1. is there much difference between a bongo bridge humbucker to a Stingray?
2. if so then is it possible to put a stingray pickup in a bongo?

reason being is my bass player owns a Bongo 5 HH dargie 1 and just bought a 20th stingray 5 and his dilemma is that the 20th sounds 100% better for what we play , so any ideas would be great?

You maybe COULD change the pickups round...but the preamp and pickup placement and woods all make a difference (probably a much bigger one) on the tone. Doing that would probably leave you with the same problem. But neither would sound as good as originally...

Neodymium magnets in the Bongo, alnico in the SR5 20th. 18v preamp in the Bongo, 9v in the 20th. I don't think I would do it.

I've got a Bongo HH and a 20th and while they sound different, I wouldn't say there's a wide gulf in terms of sonic "quality". But if he prefers the 20th, again, why not just use that as his main squeeze?

I'm perhaps not understanding something.

I've done it, and it sounded better with the original pickups. I used original Stingray alnico pickups and the Bongo preamp. Even had a custom guard made but changed it back within a few weeks.

You could favor the bridge pickup on the Bongo. I just started gigging with a Bongo 5HH and I just blend the front pickup out just a bit,and it's close enough to a Stingray tone for me.
