JP6 Neck

Hello everyone, I'm back again with another JP6 question. I posted regarding the switch not long ago. Unfortunately I cannot find a JP6 within 100 miles of where I live (Northeast Indiana). I'm becoming very envious of those of you who come across them regularly, lol.

I've tried many guitars in the last few days and so far I've been impressed by only one neck wise: The new EVH model (not the $3000 model, the cheaper one). I found one review online where somebody said the neck profile on this guitar was similar to a JP6.

Has anybody tried one of these new EVH guitars, and if so can you confirm that the neck profiles are similar? The EVH is a no go for me because I hate the lack of contour and I don't really want a floyd.

no the EVH guitars have a different neck shape and feel.
the JP has a much thinner neck and wider nut and fretboard. the profile is asymmetrical as well, but this is the only common thing between both guitars.

Thanks much! I thought the wolfgang had a thin neck so maybe I wouldn't care much for the JP6...would the Axis be more similar in feel??

The wolfie is fairly similar to the Axis. The JP is wider across, thinner front to back, and has a flatter fretboard than any of the other EBMMs.

Were you comfortable on the EVH, aside from the lack of contour? I'm thinking a Silo Special might fit you well.

I have not played the new Wolfgang but I have EVHs/Axis and a few old Wolfgangs and a JP. The necks on an Axis are different from a JP and Pete and Joe gave you good descriptions. So if you do not get along with thin necks- as they are not for me -be careful and do not buy without checking the guitar out. If you like the neck on an Axis, also look into an AL HH, great ax.

The new EVH brand Wolfgang no longer has the asymmetric neck. It is a fairly slim C shape. I don't think it is very close to the Petrucci. The Petrucci is wider and flatter. If anything, I would say it is like the Morse neck, or a slimmer Silhouette neck.

I went back to the store yesterday and played the Wolfgang again and its going to be a no go. As much as I loved the neck and compound radius it ended up being the lack of cutaway in the "upper horn" side of the guitar. My hands aren't small but I need the unrestriced feeling of a double cut.

A radius of 12-16" is really what I'm looking for...do any of the Silo models, past or present, come with buckers and a flat board? Thanks again for helping me out.

The Silo Special can be purchased in a HSS configuration. The Silo's regular configuration is HSH. As for a flat board, are you talking about the neck radius? If you are, then nope, sorry the JP has the flattest neck radius.
