Last night I attended the local jam session which attracts some very good amateur and pro musicians.

Last night Pete Matheson who has toured with the Kinks
Head Kink Ray Davies Recording With Yo La Tengo - Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV
played my BCB AL through my Fender BJ and he said that it was the first time that he had played a musicman guitar and he liked it:D

Mrs OlPlayer took some photos and I'll ask her to host them.

It's nice when you turn on an old hand like Pete to the powers of the AL.

Great story Spud, I really do have a soft spot for the Kinks!

It's nice when you turn on an old hand like Pete to the powers of the AL.

That goes to show how great the AL is...if you're not instantly converted by the looks alone...the playing experience and tone will definitely put a big smile on your face!

Always loved the Kink's. I think Ray is a great song writer and Dave is one of the founders of the rock guitar solo. Glad to see he's still out there making music. Hope Dave can get out there on the road soon as well. Having one or both with a Musicman would be very cool indeed.

That's great, Spud. Can't wait to see some pics. How did you come to let him borrow the guitar?

Pete Matheson has been on the Cardiff Guitar scene for quite some time. He currently plays in a 3 Piece band called Junior Hacksaw. When they first got together Burke Shelley from Budgie was their Bass player but due to his touring commitments they got another bass player in.

He regularly turns up at the Jam session and sometimes gets together with Ned (ex musical director of Van Morrisson with an encyclopaedic knowledge of old blues) - together they are just awesome!!
If you search you tube for Ned Edwards & Pete Mathison - I wanna be like you @ The Kings Hotel, Newport, Wales 2008 - it's a fun clip!!

Pete Plays straight into the amp, no FX. Turns all controls down (well except the volume!;)) and has the middle all the way up. I mentioned this setting before on the forum and I'd recommend it. Pete is always using the tone and volume controls and really makes the guitar work. Many guitarists around these parts think that Pete is one of the best around here and he is so understated - cool guy, a good guitar tech too.

Anyway I have known Pete for a long time and we were at the bar having a chat after my band had performed a mini set of 6 numbers and we got talking about when we were kids - what we listened to. I said that I was brought up on the Beatles then my first real band of choice was Black Sabbath followed by Free Wishbone Ash and then when I met my wife - she turned me onto Little Feat - it was weird because his path was exactly the same. Our guitar styles are completely different though. His father was a Jazz guitarist and this shows in Petes playing. My guitar was just propt up on the stand and when I looked over Pete was plugging it in and getting confused over the twin jack inputs - cos my BCB has a Piezo. I went over and helped him. The guitar sounded great - he did about 3 numbers on it then switched to a 335 for the last two.
So yeah - I was really pleased that he had finally got to play it cos I have talked to him a lot about my Al's.

I roadied for a mates band last night and Mr & Mrs OlPlayer were in the crowd.
She said that she would post her cell phone photos hopefully today.
Glad I went along really 'cos I made contact with a booking agent who looks as though we can work with and get some gigs.

... any way I'm rambling

You are interested in the Kinks.

Here is a picture of four Hit Recording Session Drummers.

Three of them British and one American. Brian Bennett, Steve Smith, Clem Cattini, Bob Graham.

The bottom one on the right Graham, was a favourite of Ray Davies and many other Artists and Producers, and was the Drummer on the Original Recording of 'You Really Got Me' and other early Recordings of the Kinks.

Sadly, he was very ill and died a short time ago, and Ray Davies made a special point of ringing him for something of what turned out to be a very lifting and heart warming long chat, he's quite a thoughtful fellow. Jimmy Page (a popular British Guitarist) and many others, also took the trouble, which was very kind.

Bob worked with me quite a lot, and so I probably have some very detailed notes about that Recording Session somewhere, for I wrote a Tribute when he died that read like a who's who of Pop and Rock History, but one hesitates on a Brand MM Forum, anyway, here's where it was Recorded.

The Kinks - You Really Got Me - PYE Number One Studio.

I'm glad you are having so much fun with your Guitar.
Thanks very much for posting this - contains such great info.
and yeah I love my EB guitars and try to spread the word ;)
