All the countless threads I've started about JP7s in the past as an "upgraded" companion to my JP6 will testify to this: I have been searching for the perfect 7 string to come by for a long time.

It has always been in my mind as a JP7. But I was stubborn. I was determined to find salvation elsewhere. I tried Schecters and Ibanezes. Sure, they're pretty ok guitars. But nothing really wow-ed me. The locking trems or extended scales didn't do it for me (I had a killer RG1077XL back then, and that one was a pain to play. GREAT guitar though!) Then came the thought of getting a custom job. After going back and forth, not knowing the result and being unsure of myself too much, I decided to can the idea and stick to a 6 string for that job (still waiting for it's completion).

Then one day, I spied in the For Sale Thread a mint condition JPX7. I took the plunge. The price was good, and the guitar specs looked great... on paper. I always thought I wanted the forearm scoop for a 7. I LOVE the JP6. I love what it is. An amazingly ergonomical guitar with great tones, courtesy of the latest LF/CL combo (I sort of outgrew the AN/SS tone) So the JPX was a bit of a step for me. But in the case I didn't like it, I knew I could easily resell it.

But I just picked it up today from the FedEx warehouse (no one at home to accept the delivery) and you know, one of those times you know you got a winner? This was it. I dabbled a little with it at home, and it bonded instantly! The larger body, the painted neck, the larger frets, WOW! It's like I've had it for ages! The bonding was instant. It's like when I first tried the JP6 in Japan. I KNEW I had to own it from the first note.

So with this, I know now I have ended the hunt for a 7 string with the JPX7. I didn't expect it to be like this. But I guess it IS a JP7 after all. On steroids though. Heh.

Congrats Lionel! Like all JPXs, that one is a stunner and I bet it sounds every bit as incredible. It is a great feeling when you bond with a guitar that is THE ONE. Enjoy it and play it much.

Thanks for picking it up from me, Lionel. It was a pleasure working with you.

Enjoy the guitar. Hopefully it can get more love from you than it did from me.

Nice! That was definitely a great price. Was not surprised that it was gone when I checked again. Enjoy that monster!

Will do! One question. What did you string this thing with? I'm amazed at how tight and crisp the low B is, as compared to some other 7 strings (even the regular JP7) I've tried. No flubbiness anywhere!

P.S. This thing has really ended my hunt for a 7. Hell, even my JP6 feels boring after this! I've not felt this excited about a guitar in a looooooooooooooooooooong time!

wowza

I'm thinking of trying on a 7 for size. 6s strings seems so....limiting.

I'm so mezmorized by my new JPX6 that I can't put it down.

have fun and make lotsa noise

It's got EB RPS 10's with a Nickelwound .056. Just like from the factory. The only things I adjusted were the neck relief and intonation. Everything else is factory setup.
