Hey Alex,
You can Blame the record companies for all of this, They have Pushed the music Industry this way. In another 20 years I believe there won't even be CD's it'll all be disposable downloads.

As a Musician who Spent 20 years on the Road I think they are getting what they deserve. Too Many years they have forced artist to record Crap , so I'm glad they are fading away.

I happen to love Itunes because I can Purchase the songs I want and not the Junk I don't want.

Plus this Makes the musicians make and write better records. Cause the people will only buy what they like and not so much the LP fillers that are junk.

Alex off the soapbox...it is a rant and a hijack when I am trying to celebrate the Beatles. Ive blogged on how quality is second to ease of delivery and application. I will say if it werent for steve jobs we woudl be a lot worse. It is far from perfect but I would hate to see the bulk of music distribution in microsofts hands....

Yes, I am extremely passionate about certain things, but, point well taken.....

Funny how we listeners have changed, too. When I first became a Beatles fan (the early 80s), Sgt Pepper was pretty much considered their magnum opus, and often finished #1 on critic's polls of the greatest rock albums of all time. Now, I'd bet most would put Revolver, Rubber Soul, or the White Album ahead of Pepper.

i wasn't there, but my dad groomed me into a fan. he was a music teacher and his love for the beatles was only equaled by 60's R&B. at age 6 he dubbed all his albums onto his brand new fisher tape deck so could listen at will without fear of me ruining his lp's (same went for stevie wonder and chicago). by junior high i had all the lyrics memorized.

to BP's point about 7 years, i always love stunning my wife and kids by pointing out the disparity in their songs when they come on the radio. sure, it was all rock/pop but I can't think of any other modern musical act that put out such a diverse stylistic range ever, let alone in 7 years.

Dave I agree totally with your points - it gives you waht you want - but I do wonder if those early Beatles albums would ever have got recorded in the disposable MP3 age?

The albums were full of fillers - but have become timeless classics because they were so good. Come to think of it, I can think of lots of album fillers that are great....but yeah lots that aren't also.

But even the fillers Back then seem to be great tunes, When your HUNGRY you work harder and write better, Today you sit in your beautiful house or Apt or some beach house property and write your songs, then get a deal then tour. Then after 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 CD's you disappear and in 5 years your forgotten. Oh lets not forget, today 99% of the bands all sound the same. Country Music Being the worst.

Actually, the three or four people that I know who have met him said he treated them like family and was genuinely as nice as can be. One was a caterer, one was a cop, one was a pr rep--not exactly CEOs, artists, or titans of industry.

My favorite saying i've committed to memory is-- "The true test of a man's character is how he treats those who can do nothing for him"

It can't be easy giving a piece of yourself to everyone in the entire world as Paul finds himself in a unique position of having to do.

I'm a fan, and hope to meet him one day.

2. Let it Be. Even now, after 40 or so years, Long and Winding Road gets to me. You hear the emotion in Paul's voice, and you know its the end, and its just so sad thinking if it could have gone on just a little bit longer. Alas, not to be.

Was never a big Beatles fan (looking over my shoulder for a lightning bolt). I try and try but nothing. There are some songs I like but I never suffered from Beatlemania.

Now, I DO appreciate and totally get what they have done and the fact that they have forever changed music and cultures. While I am not a huge fan the fact that these songs are made available to yet another generation is a great thing and a long time in coming.

I loved "Help" the movie.
One of my HS buddies had it on VHS (dating myself) and we would watch it all the time, and start laughing from the minute it came on until the end. Dumb movie, but really fun watching it with my buds.

I recently purchased the entire collection of the Beatles cartoon series on DVD, and am already brainwashing my 3yo and 4yo kids about how important the Beatles were/are.

They already have some favourite songs, always asking me to play "Piggyback Rider".

The Beatles along with J.S. Bach are definitely guilty for my addiction to music with strong bass lines. Now that they're on iTunes, I can finally get the whole catalogue and donate the CDs to someone who's in need of good music

I think I even had original releases of the LPs of Abbey Road and Let It Be which my parents bought at the time. Naturally, I gave them away when I was a teenager and CDs were all the rage...
