High Beams + Sterling??? Thats way too harsh sounding for me. I think Slinkies work best on the Sterling and I am not just trying to be a Kiss Ass on an EBMM website.

Tried stainless DR's on my Sterling before and that was horrible. I do like a bit of a bright sound but this was.... eardrum piercing?
Oh and im not about fiddling with my amps in terms of eq ing. If it doesnt sound good flat, stay away. I did. :)

+1

I tried a few non EB strings on my HS Sterling, but didn't want to bother here with this, than after all I returned to Regular Slinky Bass original factory set!

Trust me guys, I bought my Sterling brand new and know how sounded than!
All other experiments just ruined original tone.
When put back EB slinkies, everything was OK again!
Regulars sounds even better than coated to me, except coateds last twice longer! ;)

Have you ever considered EB Flats?

The Sterling can be 'tamed' a little (as can all the EBMM basses) if you want a more subdued and old school fat tone, still with that clarity.

I LOVE flats on Stingrays. My incoming Big Al 4 SSS is getting the flats treatment :)

Bearing in mind this is an EB forum this thread may not be considered OK - but IMO the answer is yes - I have them on my Sr5H (ceramic/3 position switch) and it sounds very good indeed - and different. Gives it a sort of Marcus sound but with that signature MusicMan sound as well - I think they enhance the mids and certainly add an edge.

That said I have EB stainless rounds on my Sr4HH and that sounds great as well - a lot smoother than the SR5 strung as above.

+1...I prefer the Fat Beams to the Hi Beams. More natural booty and don't seem as scooped to me. In a pinch, the Hi Beams will work, just need a little more from the EQ.

I wish EBMM offered a 5 string Stainless set.
