This may be very well the battery that was installed in factory. Amazingly, it still worked!

Talk about real vintag sound :D

Brilliant!
Truely "All original" condition.

Do you find it sounds "warmer" and "fuller" than these more modern, tonelacking newer batteries? :D

You bet! Phull'n'phat kick butt bottom, and a top end with enough sizzle to cut a frozen chicken with it. It's so alive, I had to stun it with a tazer before I was able to touch it. I tell you, t's the real deal!

...for me that just doesn't work with the SRs. Too punchy, aggressive. Too modern. Not bad at all though and THE choice to stand out in a band mix! I get my vintage sound from an EBS tube pedal in from of my GK1000RB and a niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice 7enda custom shop. Nothing else compares to that combo :)

I would suggest that the fault, dear Punky, lies not in our basses but in ourselves.

If you want a more vintage tone, it certainly can be done. I do it all the time, and I'm no bass magician. It is about string choices, right hand placement, amplification and a bad-ass attitude.

Cheers!

And Oli, what IS that bass?

Most certainly not ;) I have a deep, deep love for all my basses - not "only" my SRs :)
I was just and only referring to what works best for me concerning vintage style. Don't get me wrong: I really love all of my SRs - otherwise I wouldn't own some, right? They work best in FunkRock (Chili Peppers, e.g.) for me when bass action needs to stand out a bit more than in say Blues e.g.
Just the REAL vintage sound (Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin...) to me depends on so many hardware-related issues that I cannot name 'em all. SCs, passive electronics and tubes are most important to me. My 2cents :)

I would suggest that the fault, dear Punky, lies not in our basses but in ourselves.
Well, I cannot find any faultes in SRs. They're just fine, really! But you're right: sound does depend on ourselves (fingers...)

@Oli: Get us some more pics, please ;) Can't wait to see that bass

Did the battery leak? The green residue suggests that it did.

Mark, it didn't leak at all. Small quantities of the green residue is found on other parts of the bass as well; namle at the edges of the tuners and the frets. Maybe the alloy used has some amount of copper in it and thefore shows this green tarnish due to oxidation.

Metallurgists to help!
