I own 2 JP guitars, a JP6 and a JPX. I'm finding I like the finished neck more.

I know the new Roasted maple necks are shipping this way. I don't want to trade my JP6 off, as I'd lose too much in going to the new style and like my JP6 for everything but the neck finish. I know EBMM doesn't do customs, so my question is:

Has anyone put a finish on their unfinished neck? IF so, what did you use and how did it turn out?

Aaaargh!!!!

Noooooooooo

That's all I'm gonna say........it is your guitar, do what you want with it....

I would say to try to layer up a few coats of good carnauba wax on it, to make it very, very smooth, like paint at very little cost and no dammage to the guitar.

I would not mod the neck like that either if it goes wrong it will never be right again. But, its your guitar and I would think that you can contact a local luthier and have them do it...

Jack that really is a great idea, and should do the trick. Steve if you wax the back of the neck often it will speed up the process that happens to the necks over the years from waxing and cleaning, where it seems almost as if they have a finish on them. That is why so many guys try to hold off cleaning their necks until it is really necessary as over the years they lose that original unfinished feel from waxing and cleaning them, and you will see guitars a few years old with necks that seem like they have a satin finish and yellow tint to them. In fact their is a post on the boards now with a guy who just bought an Axis and wanted to know if the neck was original for this very reason as it felt finished.

Don't do it! My .02!

I'd go with Jack's advice. I've been rigorously working in my 25th, which is almost a year and a half now, and it starting to tint and get a "worn in" feel to it. It's great! Wouldn't trade it!

ha...I have a Sub1 and was thinking of doing the exact opposite, by removing the paint for an unfinished feel!
