Just bought a new Ball Family Reserve Stingray 4 with the "Roasted" Bird's Eye Maple neck. it's a tone monster! I played it yesterday, and went back to a/b with my '79 Stingray. Just had to have it. For those considering one, go for it. You won't be disappointed.

how's the roasted neck feel? u have a non-roasted mm to compare it with?

Yes.

I have a Bongo HH, a '79 Sabre, and a '79 Stingray. When I went to GC today, I took the '79 Stingray for comparison's sake. Both were played through a Mark Bass Little Mark III and a a 2X10 Mark Bass Cab. At the end of the day, I just had to have this bass.

'79 Stingray - classic tones, great feel. Plays great, but doesn't have the mid punch (due to the 2 band pre). Good build quality, slab body, pure vintage vibe. Very nice neck.

'10 Stingray Ball Family Reserve - punch in spades. Growl. Tonal flexibility beyond words. Superb build quality. Nice neck, but wish they could have rounded the body heel a la Bongo. Definitely a keeper.

Bongo - much more modern sounding - incredible pre. Probably the best bang for the buck out there if you ask me. Body shape/design not for everyone.

'79 Sabre - Useless tone switches. Best used with the bridge pickup. Very nice neck, comfortable body. This one will be sold to pay for my new Stingray.

These are only avaible from guitar center as far as I know. I have my eye on one but cant make a purchase till Jan so I hope that the one I have found online will still be there. Wish I could put a hold on it somehow.

New Strings, setup.... still a tone monster

I put a fresh set of DR Hi Beams on her, and set her up (truss rod and bridge adjustments) today. I'm still blown away at how great this bass sounds. Total tone monster, and it plays like a dream.

Did you check to see if you can put a 10% deposit on it and get it put on hold for 30 days?
