It didn't change that much after the pickup swapping, my Luke is still an elegant strat with a rock attitude, with DiMarzios is a bit more dynamic, sounds less "hi-fi" and distorts more gently than Emgs, but the attitude is the same, it just has more vintage vibes =)


And of course I do prefer the look of white electronics on blue guitar instead of black.

I'm with you - I think that looks awesome! Very nice, indeed.

I don't own one, but my brother-in-law does. I spent an afternoon with one of my petrucci's at his place, dialing in tones!

I wouldn't give up my mark IV for one, but it was an incredible amp regardless (it was the same model you mentioned as well).

Could you describe the tone? Likes/Dislikes? what cabs, effects, etc were you using?

Yep, every day! I had a Hot Rod 50 alongside the SLO-100 and was a great amp. Looks like my first pic disappeared, so here is another.

oh my.....so what did the HR 50+ sound like? did it have a tight bottom end or is it more spongy?

The model I had was an old Hot Rod 50 (not the 50+) with who knows what kind of tubes in it. I liked them both but the warmth of the SLO and the channel switching won me over. The 50+ gives you the option for channel switching, so it would probably be more of a toss-up. Let me know if you'd like a good deal on a new one!

Man how good are these? Made in Mexico but a friend who plays in Alien Sex Fiends uses 2 of them and kindly lent one to me to try out live.

I bought it whilst at an exhibition and an EB endorsee working on the stand (one of the Bushman Bros) really really loved it!!

I use it a lot!!

At home now I'm using ONLY my Marshall acoustic with a v-Twin I really like the sound with my Axis Sport

doing a lot of stone stuff now in open G (thanks to Keith Richards biography )

as for live HotRod deluxe those Fender amps are really great. I used it also for my Bongo bass

Very nice. But, IMHO, there is even better ! the Blues DeVille :

You have more power than the HRD (60 W) but you have also 4x10" speakers (like a Bassman). The sound diffusion is better than with a single 12". The clean sound is great (like on the HRD) and the dirty channel is underrated : you can have a great Neil Young sound (try an ASS MM90 with it ).

Allen Accomplice

In addition to my beloved Genz Benz Black Pearl 1X12 combo, I just picked up a used Accomplice built by David Allen and so far I am VERY happy with it.

The design is based on the Deluxe Reverb and the amp has great Fender clean/on the verge of breakup tones. Very meticulously and solidly built.

I have a small assortment of preamp and power tubes on their way so I can do some "taste testing" .

That is a picture from february when I bought my first Ball.
I used a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50 which I have sold by now. The DSL has a great Sound, but the DSL was too unflexible for me. I don't know yet which Amp I will buy, propaply a Marshall TSL or JVM.
