Hi , complete newb here so be gentle please if this a stupid question.

Im interested in buying an axis or maybe an evh , and ive been eyeing up different colors.... Ive seen a few guitars described as trans purple and some as purple , and recently a family reserve supersport described as purple amethyst burst, is purple amethyst burst the same color as trans purple ?

are they all the same color ? the pics Ive looked at look like slightly different colors but I put that down to differences in lighting levels etc... but the purple amethyst burst looks well.... different

A Transparent color will let you see some wood grain through the color, where a burst will also fade to a different color around the edges.

ok, Trans Purple was the first color. It was an EVH color and continued into the Axis. The purple on the EVH and first couple years of the Axis had a tendency to fade and will often be a real bright or faded color. They did fix this but the trans purple color was very dark and eventually went away.

Then they had a Solid Purple color that was available on the Axis Sport, but I don't remember seeing it on an Axis or the later Super Sport... that color has gone away as well.

The BFR Axis and ASS had an Amethest Burst which was purple in the center eventually bursting into an almost black color. It to has been discontinued, but you can still find it in some shops as NOS.

So yes, there was 3 different purples on the Axis/EVH series. There are a few trans-purple Reflexes out there... but they were a "special" guitar made for the Dallas guitar show last year. I would love to see a trans purple make its way back into production on the Axis line, but if it isn't selling there isn't a whole lot of hope...

Good luck in your search! and Welcome to the Forum.

that is trans purple. It looks like the later color trans purple used on the Axis after they tweaked it so it would not fade in the same way as the EVH and first year(s) of the Axis.

I love the color purple. I have an Amethyst Burst BFR. It is gorgeous, just like this Axis listed above.
