Mmmm - I've tightened it up quite a lot and it doesn't seem to have made any difference ... I'm a bit uncomfortable doing it any tighter ... I've only got about 6 more turns of the thread and it will be right to the end! The bridge is still up and proud.

Likely the earlier owner had lighter strings on, so you've got more tension.

It's a balance between adding an extra string and adjusting trem claw tension. You want to be able to dive the bar, yet you don't want the trem to move too much when you bend strings.

As suggested, I'd try an extra spring first and see how you like that.

Edit: ok ... yes definitely add the extra spring. Then you'll probably need to loosen the claw some.

OK guys -thanks a lot, I'll try an extra spring and see where I end up ..... PS. Is a spring and spring or are they all different .... i.e. can I just buy any spring or do I have to buy an EB Axis spring?

They'll be ok. But you're going to find it a lot easier to clean the neck with them off ;)

Just do it next time you're changing strings.
