I have another silo on the way and was thinking of changing out the pups into just 2 hums with a 3 way switch. Has anyone done this? I've never bothered to take a look inside my silo spec but the pickgaurds I've seen on here look fairly daunting with the silent circuit and all. Just wondering how easy or hard it might be.

If you've soldered before, it'll be pretty straight-forward. You won't need the Silent Circuit with just the 2 HBs.

Since it's all modular, why not buy a second pickguard with 2 HBs? You can then swap p/gs when you want to go back to the original. They have a molex connector which makes them easy to swap in/out. (That was the original idea with these guitars.)

Is your incoming another Silo Special or is it a 24-fret Silo?

If it's a Silo Special you would have to route the body for the full-sized neck humbucker since Silo Specials are routed S/S/H under the hood.

If it's a Silo then you don't have to worry about the Silent Circuit as they don't come with them.

Hey Jason, are you saying he could get a complete loaded H/H guard from EBMM? Do they also offer H/S/S for the Silo? And S/S/S?
Also, thinking out loud, it would be great if peeps would refer to the Silhouette Special as "Silo Spec" or "SS" or "The Special" or something other than "Silo". The separate distinction would be helpful (and accurate), as illustrated in this thread. :)

As far as I know, you can only get guards from EBMM in combinations that are available. With a Silo Spec you could get HSS or SSS. The Silo used to be available with other combinations, perhaps they'll sell them like that. Worth a call to CS.

If you wanted something non-standard, I'd order a pickguard from Chandler, the switches and molex connectors from EBMM and the pickups from anywhere. Bada-bing ... you've got a second guard ready to go.

But to re-iterate: if you want to go HH on a Silo Spec you'll need to route the body or go with a SC sized HB, as Tommy pointed out. With a Silo that's not an issue.

I just purchased a DD2 Silo from another member and am not feeling the pickups. I have ToneZone-Area 58-Humbucker from Hell in my main guitar (which is an '89 Ibanez RG 550) which after many many configurations I've now covered al my bases for my style of music. I know this is an old thread but didn't want to create a new one with similar topic, am I correct to assume that the Silo HB's are not F-spaced?

The bridge humbucker is f-spaced, the neck isn't.
