Hi guys,
I got "scammed". Sold my Limited 2008 Petrucci on ebay. A friend of the buyer that was accidentally here in germany came around on Tuesday to pick it up and paid cash. Nice guy, nice talk, blabla. The seller and he are from Hungary.
Now I went to my bank yesterday to pay the money into my account and then got the message from the bank employee that 700 Euro out of 1950 Euro were counterfeit!!!!
Immediately went to the Police but they said that my chances are very low since he´s Hungarian and probably his ebay street adress is faked.

It is a fully loaded Petrucci Limited 2008 Serial G40626. If someone sees it....

holly ****, I've heard a lot about ebay and scam but thought it's not actually that dangerous.
sorry to hear that.
My JP is from ebay too, my pedals, my sound board...but I always paid with paypal, the only concern was not getting the items after I paid...
it is said that there are musicians who act like that, but this is real life :-(

Sorry to hear you lost this money. This is why I always use PayPal linked to my eBay account. I know the fees are higher, but you're protected from things like this. You could have paid 50 - 100 Euro in fees instead of losing 700 Euro due to counterfeit bills...

How good did the bills look? I believe their is a chance they may have been duped as well since they could of given you all counterfeit bills, but that is a guess. I guess you now even have to carry a check marker, really sorry for you getting scammed. I would still check their accounts.

This actually makes sense, maybe they didn't know it was counterfeit either.... else they may have given you all counterfeit. But, it does sound fishy that the guy was 'accidentally' in Germany. Tough to say for sure. Sorry bro, at least you didn't totally lose out. It does suck to feel ripped off.

Yes, thought the same thing...maybe he was not aware, otherwise he would pay the entire amount with counterfeit bills. In any case I am sorry to hear about that.

Very possible that they're still in germany, or they're not Hungarian at all. In which case i think you should put out the serial number on this to customs before it actually leaves the country.
Hope you recover your loss.

I'm sorry to hear that but as others said, why only part of the amount was fake? If the guy enter to cheat you he would have given the full amount conterfiet

Hope you can sort it out

It was well mixed. One real, one faked, one real...
Maybe he thought that I would notice something when everything is faked.

Update:
The buyer wrote me that he has nothing to do with it and that it must be the driver´s fault. And he will send me the 700 Euro asap! Weird!? If something like this would happen to you would you send the seller another 700 without discussion if you are not guilty??
