Has anyone got a chance to go get the Jeff Beck rock n roll party dvd honoring les paul. Its such a fun dvd playing all old Les Paul songs and other older rock n roll songs.
Brian setzer sings a couple , Imelda May sings a bunch of songs and what a great voice and of course Jeff Beck sounds amazing. great dvd worth the watch

I haven't heard it yet - but I have to say (of course my $0.02) but Jeff Beck's LIVE guitar tones bother me. I have Live At Ronnie Scotts (?) and almost can't listen to it - even though his playing is brilliant and spectacular. The guitar just sounds sterile, ice-picky etc.

With the exception of Emotion & Commotion which I love his sounds on much more-so than anything since So What, I think his guitar tones have suffered alot since ditching Lace Sensors...

you know at times I have felt the same way about his tone sometimes it has a very shrill sound to it and its a little unbearable to listen to.
On this dvd he switches guitars alot so his tones are different its a cool cd check it out

I will check it out because I do love his playing.

I am glad to know someone else besides me isn't liking his tone either :)

Sometimes Jeff goes a bit bar crazy which has more effect on his tone than his pups, as I know exactly where you guys are coming from. A little inside secret- Jeff uses the same set of pups in any Strat you see him playing which were made by John Suhr. He only has two full sets of them and one is in whatever Strat he is playing and the other is in a back up pick guard according to his tech Steve Prior. There is a great interview with Prior on Youtube which now has been edited though, as when it first aired he was saying how he has to watch over them with his life because they are the only pups Beck will use which were made by the (late) John Suhr lmfao. So I guess someone over at Fender must of said Suhr was dead- no I am not making this up but it just happened to coincide with Fender releasing a set of official Beck pups which now turnout will not be that official. Someone on the Fender forum spilled the beans about the situation and the Youtube clip got edited and Beck must feel better that Suhr is alive, as I am sure so is Suhr lol.

G getting back to the original topic I only have the short version that appeared on PBS and is missing half the playlist, I must of watched it 4 or 5 times as it is a great show and have the official DVD on order. Becks playing is off the hook as usual as he is a whiz at that style as Cliff Gallup is one of his boyhood idols and he nailed his sound perfectly on the Crazy Legs album. Mike he uses a Les Paul for most of the songs and sounds scarily like Les on his songs, though when he puts on a Strat especially for Walking in the Sand he does a killer intro. I had never heard of Imelda May before but boy she made a fast fan out of me and with Setzer popping up I could not ask for more -except maybe if he and Setzer would of did a few more numbers together. By the way they are doing that show at the Beacon on March 28th.

Stratycat - Yeah I knew his pups were made by John Suhr.

Imelda May also sings with him on his most recent studio disc (Emotion & Commotion) which I think is killer.

I will have to check that out - particularly in know he is playing something other than a strat on it! :)
