A simple observation, Seems that over the many years that the Stingray has been around ,besides the Bongos and the some five string Rays the same chrome knurled volume and tone knobs have been used. When is the last time you've seen anyone use a modded or aftermarket replacement on their MM basses? I'm just curious because I can't recall ever seeing a MM bass with anything other than standard issue knobs.

I think I seen it, black plastic knobs with a silver center? With all the aftermarket stuff out there these days you'd think you might see more owners adding personal touches to their basses. It would be cool to have some billet aluminum knobs made, maybe add a subtle slot to indicate position . The old school Pioneer receivers used to some pretty nice knobs on them, think SX650 even a nice switch tip for say a coil selector switch

Funny you should mention it. I have just received a set of stacked knobs for my 25th, that a friend powder coated for me. I was hoping for as close to silver as possible, but they cam out more a gun metal grey. I will post pics as soon as I can get the right allen wrench. I thought I had one, but it was too big...

Nice, can't wait to see them. The 25th to me is more of an off shoot version of the MM six string guitar like the ones that guy, hmmmm what's his name Eddie Van something or another uses JK. The 25th Basses are Sweet looking basses, love the flametops and the bound bodies.

Well,

I've run into a little snag. The knobs are not fitting on the posts now that they have been powder coated. I was afraid that this would happen, so now I'm looking for a fix. Maybe using a q-tip and some kind of solvent on the inside of the knobs?

It's not paint. Pretty sure solvent won't work.

This will not help. Powedercoating is impervious too solvents. Simply roll up a small piece of 600 sandpaper, insert into the post hole and twist. Make sure you clean with a q-tip before you try to fit them.

If you paid for it you should probably take it back to the shop. Refinishing should not alter surfaces that mate with other surfaces or threads.

I've thought about messing with the knobs on my SRs but couldn't find anything that I like. The knobs with numbers on them remind me of old transistor radios and I don't like old transistor radios haha.

I might be wrong, but the knobs on the classic rays are a little smaller than the standard since the 90ies, aren't they?

They are the same size on my 07 SR4 and my Classic SR5
