Hey guys, was all ready to order my Bahama Blueburst JP6 BFR today. However, I saw a JPX on sale brand new at almost £700 cheaper than the normal BFR would cost me (over $1000). For the BFR i will of course have to wait many long months for it to be built and so have been tempted by the JPX though I don't find it quite as beautiful (haven't seen it in person). What are peoples thoughts on what I should do as I am finding it a tough decision.

Cheers for any input,
Joe

You are comparing 2 fantastic fully loaded high quality guitars. JPX in Borolo with black hardware and ebony board vs. the maple top in bahama burst with maple board. If you want to see a bunch of pictures, check out the Guitar Center Platinum room. You might end up getting one of the many 46th anniversary editions or even the JPX in black sugar. What even the outcome, awesome guitars. Cheers, C.

If getting a great looking guitar is your main goal, then you should get the BFR. Otherwise, feature-by-feature the JPX is probably better. You don't get a figured top, but will get black hardware, ebony fretboard, chambered body and two thin horns. The Borolo finish is not as sexy as the figured top, but in my eyes it looks very good too.

I think this is mainly form vs. substance question. I personalty would get the JPX in your situation but YMMV.

In conclusion - regardless which one you get you will not regret it.

The only solution to this dilemma is to get both: the JPX will give you instant gratification and the BFR, which will arrive several months later, will sustain your euphoria.

See my sig. You do want to be awesomely freaky, don't you? (That was a rhetorical question.)

I would get the JPX. I have both and I think the JPX is every bit as sexy as a BFR if not more.

Cheers for those photos and all opinions. The more i see the JPX the more I like it and didn't realise the finish was so awesome. If I like the way it feels (sure I will) I think i'll have it. The ebony board is also something I really want. Why can't they give me one on a standard BFR?

Those are great pictures above and the JPX is hard to photograph well. Kudos to yellowv3.

Ebony is fantastic, its got a feel and quality to that in my opinion is unequaled.

Glad I could help. Barolo really is an awesome finish. EBMM solid color sparkle finishes are always awesome. Plus the thinner horn, black hardware and ebony board add to it as well. It's a sexy guitar.

Can't go wrong either way. If bling is your thing, then BFR is the right choice. BUT the JPX is sexy.

I guess it all comes down to how patient you are, as already stated both are top shelf models though there is going to be a difference in feel on the neck and tone. If your dream was to always have the BFR in BB then I would order it and just wait it out so you do not have any regrets.

Personally, I'd prefer the BFR (I do own one :p) but to me a 'superstrat' style of guitar with a 5-way? Nuh-uh.

The 3-pole switch with the coil tap makes so much more sense to me.

It's surely a win, win. The color of the JPX in person is just awesome! However. . . . There are only 50 of those Bahama bluebursts made!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So. . . . The wait might be very worthwhile!!!! Did I mention it's a win, win??? :D

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with either guitar or even a standard JP. I've either owned or spent a considerably amount of time playing all the major JP versions out there and i can honestly say I'd be happy with any. If you can't play them both and decide that way the main question you need to ask yourself is which guitar you will be the happiest with playing. Don't compromise for a few hundred dollars if the Bahama BFR is what you want deep down, cause you don't want to be regretting your decision. Just my .02.

I personally prefer the BFRs over the others for 2 reasons, I actually like the smaller frets better, not that the jumbos on the JPX are bad and I prefer the 3-way switch over the 5-way for quick switching even though the 5-way gives you more tonal variety. It's all about what YOU need, not us. Analyze the pros and cons for YOU and make your decision and good luck!

Yup, even though I love my JPX, I wish it had the smaller frets and the 3-way switch (even though I use position 2 _all_ the time).

Which is why I kinda want the JPXI... But I don't think the new neck radius will agree with my wrists..

Hey guys, cheers for all your help. Made the decision yesterday to buy the JPX. Went to play it and got it straight away. It just felt so right and looked absolutely stunning next to the BFR's and the regular mystic dream. After 5 minutes of playing I was sold. So excited to have it.
