Question lightest MM guitar

I'm really attracted to a lot of the MM guitars, especially the Silhouette. Though the luke is pretty awesome.

One of the things I noticed with the few MM guitars I have held is that they are pretty light.

If I got a silhouette with trem and piezo, what is the lightest I could probably find one?

Hi and welcome to the forum. That sounds like a great spec for a guitar - you will LOVE the piezo I'm sure.The weight varies and the weight specs are on the Musicman site.
My hardtail AL is just over 6 lb.
Don't expect a Piezo/trem guitar to be super duper light 'cos of the piezo pre amp and brass trem block - even allowing for the removal of wood thro the routing process.

well, I find that the key for me is under 7lbs. if I can get it even lighter that's good. But under 7 seems to be the main ticket.

If I did it, I would probably get it in tangerine with a black pearl pickguard. I want to do sort of a bright orange/copper metallic look.

Very true Now if you are looking for super light under 7 then the original Silo Gold Roller is for you, when I had mine it was 6lbs 10ozs, but most EBMM are light and comfortable, and weight varies on each one.

I know guitar weight is all of a sudden a very big deal and in some cases even a deal breaker, there used to be a guy who came in the store regularly and would ask to use the scale to weigh his guitars which I thought was odd logging the weight until I noticed how much weight is an issue and talked about on forums these days. Spud and Keith are right about the AL and Roller though, as there were two occasions I picked up the case and had to open it as it felt like the guitars were not even in there and now I am curios to see what the weight is on both.

The weights can vary within the same guitar model. I was considering 2 Als at DuBaldos and one was somewhat average for weight, the other felt like it was full of helium. Very light. You sort of have to hold the actual guitar you're considering if weight is a strong consideration.

Rex (silverburst) had an Albert Lee that was unbelievably light, definitely lighter than my old AL.

My axis hardtail weighs 6 lbs, 12 ounces. I weighed more than that when I was born. YOINKS!

can i ask why its a big deal? is it more than just how it feels performing live and such?

Seriously though, I think us geetar players are just getting older. I've not yet reached the stage in life where I care about how much my guitars weigh, but I do have friends and band mates that do take it into consideration.

Trem with Piezo is the heaviest configuration for any guitar in the EB line (although I can't tell you how heavy. The trem adds weight as does the piezo. A hardtail w/o piezo on the other hand is the lightest.

I will see if I can weight my SS w/ piezo and trem for you.

I find the people who don't get the weight thing are either people with really strong backs or something or people who don't play long shows.

I've played 4 hour continuous gigs. Even an acoustic, if it sits wrong, can get pretty heavy. And I have a gut, so the guitar is actually pulling on my back at an angle, so I don't REALLY have the strength of my spine just holding the guitar against gravity. Heavy guitars thus end up being supported by my upper back muscles. Which is fine, as those are pretty strong, but the difference between 7 and 8 lbs is actually pretty huge when a long time frame is involved I can notice the difference in 20 minutes.

Basically, at under 7lbs I can play almost indefinitely. At 6 I don't notice at all. At 8 I get fatigued.

It is the difference between all the muscles being able to spend the energy without tiring and slowly wearing out. Just like most people might be able to walk for a really long time but wear out from a sprint pretty fast. 6 is like walking, 7 is a jog and 8 is starting to burn lol.

Yes, my old 94 AL is really light (although I didn´t scale it) but it is the lightest solidbody-guitar I ever played. Had my Morse before the AL and also thought it is light but because of all that hardware (4 PuPs) it´s a bit more heavier but still lighter than a average Strat or Tele.

Walleye not a big deal for me really as I could play a 15 pound guitar without any issues since I use the Johnny A approach and play sitting since I blew 3 disc out of my back 10 years ago lol. It was just odd at how light the last two Balls I bought were, I am not joking when I said I had to open the case and make sure the guitar was in it. But I guess the main reason for weight being an issue is exactly what Rampant is talking about in his post.

In my experience the transparent finished EBMM guitars tend to be lighter (not counting maple top versions). Could be a coincidence though. The transparent guitars are usually ash.
