Tele Replacer

Hey guys. I was thinking about getting a new tele. I'm a fan of the Nashville style pickers, and you really can't beat a tele for that style.

When I got my Silhouette Special, It effectively replaced my strat because, the silhouette special gave me all my strat sounds, except the guitar felt better and sounded way better than a standard strat.

My question: Is there an EBMM guitar that can replace my tele? I'd hate to go buy a fender after being so hooked on EBMM guitars.

I know the Albert Lee is the first guitar to come to mind, but I've never plugged one into an amp. Does it do the tele thing?

It does. And it does it pretty well, too. I think an Axis Super Sport with MM90s gets close too. But the AL is ash and a metal plate under the bridge pickup - gets you real real close.

There are some pretty good Youtube clips of people playing ALs that sound very Tele like.

If you don't grab an AL or ASS with mm90's take a peak at the Squire Classic Vibe Tele's "over of the TDPRI forum they are a very well kept secret and fantastic guitars if you buy a Tele"

Imo, nothing sounds quite like a tele. The AL is twangy, but doesn't get all the way there. It's the right woods with the right p'ups, but you need the tele bridge to really nail it.

So I'd say it depends on how much like a tele you need it to sound like. With the right amp, you can get plenty of twang. Just listen to Johnny Hiland rip it up with a Silhouette with humbuckers ... not what you expect to hear, and the AL gets a lot twangier than that.

I will say this, the AL rules. It is such a stellar guitar to play, just fits like a glove. I can't imagine not having one.

I have a squier tele that I put DiMarzios in. It sounds awesome, but it's a crummy guitar. Doesn't stay in tune. I recently played a gig where I brought my Axis, Y2D, Sil Special, as well as the squier. I had to use the tele for those picking songs, because the other guitars don't do that sound. I just felt weird playing a squier after playing all of those beautiful EBMMs and I thought, "I gotta get something better than this tele."

Amen! There's no way you could go wrong with the SSS Albert Lee...standard or BFR, trem or hardtail...they all do the trick!

Rich I could not give you an answer from experience since all my Balls have Humbuckers, but Albert Lee pulls a great tone with the AL s-s-s. I will say looking at your guitars playability and feel wise the guitar will be right up your alley. I have been tempted to pull the trigger on an EB single coil guitar but am afraid of what the consequences may be since some of my single coil guitars I have had 20 plus years though something with P-90s may deffinetly be in my future. I would love to see them do a 50 or 100 LE run of that ax they made for Paisley, as that would solve the issue as well as being a must have ax.

I'm with you straycat. Too afraid to get an all single coil EBMM. I think the AL sounds fantastic, but those tones sound closer to a strat to my ears. I'm looking for the twang with the fatness to back it up. I'll probably end up with an AL one of these days. I played one at the NAMM show and it was incredible.

i've recently started fiddling with the tele tones and to be honest i couldn't afford to get an albert lee - and they just don't have 'em in my neck of the woods... well until a few weeks ago. The albert has a nice chunky neck that reminds me of the classic tele chunky necks and the tone was absolutely incredible... not only does it do the tele tones it does them very well and in some regards a with a varriant that you cannot find on teles... its a wonderful guitar

I have a USA Deluxe Tele (sorry all) and i think the AL model was the closest feel wise to it, but missed that Tele honk, i dont think there is one MM that is 100% Tele sounding!
