I am absolutely thrilled it is Mike, He from the first moment i saw his audition hoped it would be him, he just fit so well.

I cannot wait to hear the album and see them in concert. I know i will be chanting "MANGINI" before they start playing.

i was hoping, that marco will be in DT (he is a germany guy! :D ) but to be fair, mike is the man!
as i watched the first part of the videos, and he walked in and played the DT stuff, i knew it right away. he is the best match to the other four guys in the band.

The members of DT know best. But I couldn't help but SMILE when I saw Mangini's face when playing Spirit Carries on. THAT is the type of chemistry I hope to find in a drummer one day. MAN! So stoked for the new album!

I was hoping for Minneman, but in the documentary JP indicated hints that Mangini played the songs the closest to the recording, so I guess that gave him the edge.

As you know this music thing is very contagious. My wife has become a huge fan of DT beacause of me. From the time we saw the first episode she told me Mangini is the best choice. She was right! As JP said, they were all great but there was something more about Mike and Marco, and more specifically about Mike that just reached the guys. Congratulations Mr. Mangini, I am certainly looking forward to the new album.

I was rooting for Marco, too. I liked his style better and I was really bothered by the goofy faces that Mangini was making when he was playing. I know, petty stuff. I can't help but wonder, though, if the fact that Mike Mangini is American (like 3 of the other members) was a factor in determining the best predictor of chemistry going forward.

Either way, I am very much looking forward to new music from DT.

Nice! Congrats to Mike Mangini! He definitely had the presence and energy and feel from the beginning. I also felt that there was a reason why the first episode was only him hehe :D. Marco was indeed awesome as well, but the decision is definitely a good one. Really looking forward to the album.

So glad it is Mangini. The documentary was awesome and Mangini was my favorite by far actually. Marco was great, but I was really hoping it would be Mangini.

You took the words out of my mouth. There were a few times when JP eluded to the fact that Mangini was a better "fit". JP said that some of the guys were just as good but they all liked Mike as a person.

I think him being American and very nice and formal (can't think of a good word right there) had alot to do with the decision.

I by no means, am trying to incite an argument, just stating my argument, but there have been other musical forums, not so much here, who have elicited their displeasure with Mangini.

A lot of the resentment resides in the fact that, some assert that DT made their decision beyond the drummer's technical ability and skill set. Many people argued that DT failed to be objective about their choice and went with the "comfortable" choice.

If anyone's been in a band long enough, we all should know how chemistry extends beyond just one's ability. As much as it flirts with PC, but in the insignificant chance that DT actually did consider nationality as part of their criteria, there is still absolutely nothing wrong with that. Feeling comfortable socially and culturally is important. There's nothing wrong with that. The band is in it for the long run, for long haul, this is a marriage, and a fit must be found on all possible dimensions.

Irregardless, the 3 Webisodes we saw are all products of media and editing. They don't convey the entirety of the situation. We will never know the WHOLE story. Everything we say is entirely speculative and unsubstantiated. The best thing to do is be grateful we got access to, what is a rather personal procedure for many, and trust that the band knows what they're doing. If J.Myung, JP, LaBrie, and Ruddess say Mangini was definitely the best fit possible, I'll take their word over an internet keyboard warrior any day.

Besides, Mangini is a MONSTER drummer.
