Guys-

Just a friendly reminder to everyone that you have to be a regular contributing member with at least 25 posts to put ads in the F/S or CL threads.

Reading the rules and then starting a "Ignore this thread -- just raising my post count" type thread (for those of you that saw that one this morning) isn't gonna cut it. 25 posts is a guideline, but really, it's about being a regular member here.

The F/S threads are done as a favour to all of us regulars here. It's not a replacement for eBay or CL, and there are other forums for just selling guitar related stuff.

I appreciate everybody's help in keeping it clean. Mostly everybody's great about deleting duplicates, not leaving comments, etc. But for those who aren't- this is a friendly reminder.

Cheerio.

Thanks, beej. :)

AWESOME! Just noticed this is post 2112 for me! In my world, that is ridiculously significant. That was the first album (and yeah - it was vinyl! ) that I ever purchased. WooHoo!!!!! :D

I still love Rush to this day - although they lost me in the 90's.

A gripping tale of a guy who has no respect for people that actually participate around here ... and the guitar he wanted to sell :)

And ditto on the number! That was a big album for me too. Though I really got hooked with Hemispheres, that was the one.

Take another listen to Counterparts!

Give me a break...how can any sane person agree with this guy? Please it is not a god given right to sell stuff here and the members themselves voted for the standards after getting burned here in the early days...way before stray cat was around. Give us the benefit of the doubt instead of a guy thumbing his nose at us and telling us how much he likes suing people.

There is a reason for every rule this place started out with zero..asshats made each and every rule possible

I think a lot of people who just "surf in" to this forum don't quite "get" early on that it is basically a pretty small community. Small communities have rules that they stick to! Nice work Beej.

Yeah just remember or when being a sudden regular that there are good explanations for most of the rules. As I said people would buy a guitar here...get ripped off and think that we should be responsible since we hosted the ad...collectively it was decided that the person should have 25 quality posts.......I really dont care if this person comes back they dont get it at all

Personally, I think 25 posts is too low. It's easy to stick around long enough to make 25 posts and sell your guitar. It's still very easy to get messed over by someone with only 25 posts. Don't think any kind of trust gets built up with that low a count. Make it 100 posts. Wanna sell you guitar here, I say put the time in.

I agree, make it 100 posts. I’ve seen way too many members posting on their 25th or 26th post then they’re gone.

It's a tough balancing act. I like having a F/S section, I think it's a great resource. From what I can see, 25 is a good bar for "I get it, I'll stay and participate". Either they do and stay, or they leave and that's that.

But I'll tell ya, very frequently I delete posts from guys that just got here, and I send every one a PM explaining why (so they don't just think their posts disappear). Better than half write back and lip off. Is it so tough to read the rules when you're new to a forum?

I like having a F/S thread too, J. Ya just never know what gem will pop up. I can imagine you get quite a bit of attitude after deleting posts. But there is no way I'd send my money off to someone that only had one post of a handful of posts. You see someone who has 50, 60, 70...I feel a little more comfortable.

It's all about participation. Participation builds trust. Trust makes for good deals. A minimum post count should encourage that. If you can't put the effort in, quit complaining.

Personally, I think 100 is a little high, but 50 would be better than 25. After that, it is of course "buyer beware".

My deal with Slav this year is a good example. I've been round here long enough to know he had worked with others, keeps his guitars in great shape, and was trustworthy. And he's no doubt seen my posts going back years and I've made friends here who vouched for me with him. Result - I'm typing this with my 2005 LE Silo Special on my lap and I've more buddies around the world too!

F/S thread is a community service. Don't just sign up, actually be part of the community. That is actually the goal.

Just got to play it safe and hope for the best. Heck I had a member here that has been around 6 years with over 700 posts pull out of a deal after I sent him the money and give me a BS excuse. Never really can tell. I think rather than post count referenences should be required such as if guys are newer here but have stellar buyer/seller/trader ratings on other forums or E-Bay. For instance I have a low post count here yet I have thousands of posts and numerous good deals on other forums and a perfect E-Bay rating.

+1, references and where you're located should be required. I offered and even did a skype call with a potential buyer when I sold my bahama 7 so he could see it and feel more comfortable about a possible transaction.
