ive used Red Wirez big box mesa rectifier impulses using the same mic positions as Mr.Petrucci i think im pretty close to the original sound :D

no no no, not only close to the original, i´m missing the sound of the JP-BFR john used on the album which makes a biiiiigggggg difference in sound. ;)
just joking!

good sound you have there. what did you do, that your marshall sounds like a mesa?

I've used a SM57 cap 6 inch impulse+MD421 cap 5 inch impulse and a royer ambient mic impulse mixed togheter so it sounds like a mesa by itself ive also added some eq to make it more round...the Marshall grainy distortion is still there though i wish i can remove it...it will be perfect ahah

thanks for the comments :D

do you have a download link for the IRs you used?
for the amp, have you ever tried the lepou lecto?

you can find the whole 2.1 GB pack on torrents(dunno if i can talk of warez **** here lol)

ive tried the lecto plugin but it sounds so digital and with no dinamics just like all the digital preamps out there..ill keep using my marshall head instead..i have a warmer, richer tube sound i think a mesa preamp will also do the job.

As an owner of a Mark V, I have to say that's very impressive. Some subtle differences, but still VERY close. Great playing too!

Thanks :D yeah the marshall grainy distortion is still here..i think a preamp tube swap will clear it a bit(i have the stock ones) but all in all the tone is close to what im looking for :) also if you set it clean it also sounds like petrucci's clean tone :Q_

does my differences in tone justify the purchase of a new 3000 euro mesa amp? its a great question ahah
