Finally decided to post here. Got a new 2008 model Sterling HS 5
string. I've always heard about Music Man basses and after hearing
Tony Levin with Peter Gabriel, I've been on the quest to get a MM
someday. Finally it was my first manufactured bass in years after building
a few Warmoths and 6 with John Carruthers parts. The playability is
awesome to say the least, same with the tone. The feel of the neck
is incredible and very comfortable for my small hands. The low B extension
is really good, rivaling my 35 inch scale 6.

My wish---a Sterling 6 string bass. I know, what about the Bongo 6. Too
out there for me. I like the traditional look. Plus I like the smaller Sterling
body style.

Ernie Ball FTW!:D

Hey! Welcome.

I bet in 6 months the Bongo shape grows on you ;)

Uh huh .... like a staff infection ?

I find that Boingos have waaay much worthwhile,
but even when I owned 3 the shape never really
infected me. What I have found is that the bright
and cheery Boingo colors do not compensate, or
distract from, the uglee shape. Even quite to the
contrary, those colors accentuate the shape. My
most visually acceptable [to me] Boingo is thus
my black one. You kinda hafta look twice before
the shape emerges from the dark.

Just get a black or dark blue Boingo 6 and enjoy.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone. Seems like a great bunch of
people on here. Saw the Ed Friedland You Tube video testing the Bongo
6. Great sound with a killer low B. One thing for sure, the MM basses have
really changed my perception of 34 inch scale extended range instruments.
I was really set on getting a Peavey Cirrus 5, but after hearing the Sterling 5
and playing one, I think I made the right choice.

Now about that Sterling 6 I'm dreaming about. LOL

I am like you, love the size and feel of the Sterling neck. Also fits my stubby fingers! You will find the neck on the Bongo is quite different, but not impossible. The sound and flavors of tone are quite delicious. I love mine, and you will too once you try one. Don't miss an opportunity to play one ;) And welcome!

My only problem is I live in the Aloha state, so playing one
in a local shop doesn't happen very often. I got my Sterling 5
just by luck. Two other shops in town only had Stingrays. My
last stop was a shop owned by an old friend that sold me my
bass amp years ago. The gold hardware on the bronze body looked
real nice, but when I played it, what a sound and what a feel.

Now I'm working on updating my bass rig to get that great sound
out. Using an SWR Headlight, SWR Amplite and 2 Eden D210XST
cabinets. Tight and controlled with a nice low end extension for
getting the most out of the Low B.

Yep, hopefully I can try the Bongo 6. I guess the shape has to grow
on you. The available colors are pretty cool.

Still, a Sterling 6 would be the ultimate. LOL

When I first saw the Bongo & Big Al basses, I didn't care for either. But they really grew on me, and now I own a Big Al and plan on getting a Bongo down the road. Just give it time. :)
