I have been playing the stock humbuckers in my ASS for 3 years now.......they are not bad and are actually pretty good, but after 3 years of playing them, they are actually pretty sterile and neutral, and I am swapping them out for a SH-4 JB in the bridge and a SH1 59 in the neck. It's a pretty common pickup configuration, had this same setup in an old Ibanez RGA I used to have, sounded really good. The ASS stock pups aren't bad, I just need some character, and that is what they missing.

I have loved the JB/59 combo in every guitar I have played with them. While I personally think the stock Dimarzio Custom Neck pickup is perfect in the Sport/Super Sport guitar, I would be real interested to hear your review of the JB after you put it in.
Please report back when you can. Sound clips would be fantastic if you have the capabilities!
They have plenty of character, you just don't happen to dig that particular vibe. I'm glad you found what you like though.
The custom dimarzios are the bomb. For those who aren't into them, might I suggest a new amp? LOL
