Wow gorgeous bass, what a top - maple neck with inlays is cool as well - you seem to be starting a collection of EBMMs without pgs there!

Slight OT but Bassmonkee every time I see your avatar that Daphne blue Bongo just LEAPS out of the screen at me I'm v envious! Could this be a serious contender for a new EBMM colour???

it means that's a beautiful top.........that top sucks.

Being totally sexist for a moment - I think this is something you shouldn't say to a female guitarist..or any woman come to think of it, for fear of slight misunderstanding  (I did say this to a woman who I'd watched singing and playing a nice Martin at a jam session once. I was admiring the guitar following hearing the phrase on this forum, and got a slap round the face for the compliment - so be warned!!)

Heh. Well, I wouldn't suggest telling someone their top sucks unless they are a member of this board. I believe it was BP himself who started the "That top sucks" meme when the topic of a custom shop came up. Something about only needing a custom shop when your regular production sucks.

And, thanks drT about the daphne blue. I love it. Wait until you guys see the pics of the blue Bongo with the 25th Anniversary. Quite the pair, indeed. I'd love for the Bongo to be offered in the classic colors, complete with tint gloss necks, but I doubt they'd be huge sellers. That's why I did what I did to get mine. I'll be sending another Bongo neck off in the near future to get it refinished, too. And, then I think I'm done until my 40th birthday. I felt a little guilty buying this bass, but it was such a good deal, I couldn't say no. Luckily, I'd just sold the Big Al 5 fretless and an amp that almost covered the cost of this acquisition.

Review coming this weekend when I have had a chance to play it plugged in. I got home last night and took my wife and son out for dinner. If I weren't an atheist, I'd say I was blessed. :D

So basically it's a sarcastic compliment.

Back when the earth was just cooling off, EBMM came out with some fabulous figured tops - it was mostly a guitar thing for a bit there. And some naysayers "elsewhere" would say, "That top sucks." So we hijacked their saying and turned it into a good thing. We even had shirts, courtesy of BP.

Those were some good times, naysayers and all.

Thanks for clearing that up guys. Now where can I find one of these T-shirts? :)
