Current issue of Premier Guitar has an article on Dream Theater. John Myung, when talking about gear, talks about he's 6 string Bongo.

Thanks! It's a great read... Bongo 6 with a 5'er neck... Pretty cool. That may mean pretty tight sting spacing. Interesting... All the TB guys wanting wider spacing and the guys who can REALLY play want it tighter. Ok, sorry, I should not have opened that can of worms.

Knock this crap off--That's completely unnecessary and simply validates all the junk they talk about this forum at TB. Wanting a wider neck doesn't mean someone can't play. It simply means liking a different feel to the neck.

So who besides me wants to buy a BFR John Myung 6 with the smaller neck and new tuners? Hey I can dream...

Y'know, reading that AND looking at the pics, I think that it's not literally the same dimensions as a fiver neck. I do believe it's wider. I mean, look at the thing....

But it's not the slablike chunk of wood with a flat rear face that I've seen on some sixers. It feels more like the profile of my Bongo's neck.

Maybe that's what he meant.

I did get to fondle one of the early sixes at the forum bash four years ago and, assuming the neck wasn't altered for JM, it's definitely wider.

It definitely appears to have a much smaller neck than my Bongo 6. I'd like to note - look at his headstock, the B and C strings meet the tuners slightly to the left and right, respectively, whereas the normal Bongo 6 the strings stay straight. Maybe for the sake of brevity, he oversimplified the approximate dimensions. It also appears a heck of alot narrower at the 24th fret.

Man, new Bongos get me excited!

Sorry, I did not mean to piss anyone off. It was just my, obviously failed, attempt at being sarcastically funny. There was no harm intended. Again, my appologies.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

The fact he warms up for 3 hours before the show impressed me a lot. I think that really shows how professional those guys are.

I think it's great BP is working with him to make him a perfect Bongo 6. I am wondering if BP will break tradition and bring out a signature model? :)

Just my 2 cents (and sorry for bringing up the 19mm Stingray issue again) but I learned alot about instrument production when that fiasco happened, and it seems to me that they would keep the machinery and parts for the standard Bongo 6's just because of the costs involved. Same for the new Bongo 6 - they would need to sell the model to make the money they lost in engineering back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my uneducated guess is that it would benefit the company to keep producing the current model Bongo 6 as well as put the new spaced neck into production. Am I just off in another world or does that make a bit sense?

I'm just hoping the don't permanently change the neck size on all Bongo 6's. Then again, I might like it better. Who knows. All I know is that whatever this bass is will probably WOW us again.

Not only does Myung spend a far-above-average time warming up for a show, he's the only person I've heard of that "warms down" *after* leaving the stage (as stated in a "Bass Player" article a few years back, by former Keyboardist Derek Sherinian, and on the Band Commentary Track from one of Dream Theater's DVDs.)

Just Checked out the article and the man for curiosity, That boy Myung 'aint natural!!! then I watched some clips of his the other day, scary stuff, and his Bongo is one crazy looking beast yet he is all over it and pretty decent sound to boot, musically not my thing overall, but playing of that calibre certainly is inspirational. Cheers.

When Images and Words came out, I was blown away by his playing. Throughout the years, I have continued to be amazed by his playing. I'll never play a 6 string bass simply because they don't interest me but Myung impresses the heck out of me with the stuff he can do.

OK The 19mm has made me very scarce around here.
That and some gutiar side people who just dont get it.

Here is my official response. WE make tools for artists. If there is a chance at the tool being something that could generate sales or demand then we make it. John Myung is a gifted player and we are proud to make his tools..,but we sell almost ZERO thas righ ZERO six string basses to begin with and this one is so custom for him there would not be but 10 myung pervs that would want it ...It also has no tone controls. We preset them and its fixed.
