Okay so i finally got my Rebel Yell set (Steve Stevens signature) from Bare Knuckle Pickups shipped out and just installed by my guitar tech (not really 'my' tech; but 'a' guitar tech) and brought it home few hours ago to try out...:D:D:D grinning...yes! exactly what i was hoping to achieve.

I replaced the Dimarzio CL/LF set. I know lot's of peeps love that set, but I could never bond with it...sounded too dark for my tastes very heavy in the midrange and rolled off highs. my guitar is already a dark sounding guitar naturally with the rosewood/alder etc...so looked into the BKP's rebel yells (recommended to me) to brighten things up a bit and hopefully have a more balanced sound-well just more suited for my tastes...I'm into classic rock stuff-think 80's and 90's rock...not the hair metal bands.

The rebel yells are like a suped up PAF-JB ish sound and perfect for classic/modern rock. the CL/LF seem better suited for metal and prog-which of course makes sense on a Petrucci signature guitar. The Rebel yells have a really wooly midrange growl and sound like i'm playing a super hot rodded Les Paul...really react to the master volume on the Bogner amp i played in the store--just opens right up the louder it got. very clear articulate pickup I think. My Axe-FX loves these pickups...surprising how responsive the Axe-FX is to different pickups. Basically, I had not picked up my JP for so long because i just hated how it sounded....was a shame because it is such a beautifully crafted guitar. Now it is a killer guitar, and I'm in love again!

Here's some pics...i opted for the black covers...i considered chrome but thought the black would offset the subtle finish and other accents nicer.

Cool! I have a set of BKP Rebel Yells flying around here myself, I just never got the time to install them on one of my guitars. Your description sounds very good, I'm more into that kind of sound, too!

I'll definitely have to do a "solder day" in the next week! :)

Btw, very nice choice of covers for the pickups, they look very good on the BFR. Glad you rediscovered your guitar again! :)

please, post a video :)
I've never done one before, but I may try soon. To demo the difference: I should have taken a vid or sound clip with the old CL/LF set; then kept all the settings/variables exactly the same and another vid/clip with the BKP's. To me, the sound is completely different. It is definitely more of my style/preference. The guy in the store noticed straight away that the dimarzio's were higher output...which they probably are, but wasn't as important to me.

Did you get a calibrated set? (I don't even know if that's an option on the Rebel Yells)
AFAIK they are a 'calibrated set'; I ordered them as a set as opposed to individually. So my answer would be yes. I seem to recall, in my email correspondence with BKP, that I asked about them being calibrated.
