Congrats on the Y2D! I sense some sarcasm here, but not really sure though, but that Top is AMAZING! not sure why some are agreeing that it 'sucks'? HUH!? Must be an inside joke if Sucks = Killer!

I think the 'that top sucks' might be a deviation of a famous quote from BP - something like 'sorry about the top' - when it's absolutly awesome......I could be wrong - in fact I've built this in own head from hanging around this forum group.....in which case please correct me.....but ya - I understand 'that top sucks' as total sarcasm........text does not convey those subtleties the way a face can.

Dr. Strangenote: it is sarcasm, an inside joke around here. It's in my OP :)

Friday is a 9-1 gig, I'll have plenty of time to bond with it. Glad to be part of the Morse club!

"That top sucks" means it's an awesome top!

"That wife sucks" means LawDaddy has the best wife EVER for making him turn around to buy that Morse!

Gig went excellent, band actually complimented my tone, which is rare. :) Played it for all four sets.

I'll post pics when I get back from this business trip.

Most definitely a must for any arsenal, and nothing beats getting complimented on your tone. When I said I was in a rush I had a chance to play a friends and had to have one. But I could not find one anywhere at the time. When I finally did it was a flame top and I wanted the guitar=there and then! But if given the choice I would of taken a quilt.

Steve Morse tour dates / Stax setlist ?

According to this thread:

http://www.ernieball.com/forums/ernie-ball-music-man-artists/51447-steve-morse-band.html

Steve is playing these dates in CA:

Canyon Club in Agoura Hills Jan 19
Coach House in San Juan Capistrano Jan 20
Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach Jan 22
Boardwalk in Orangevale (Sacramento area) Jan 23
Slim's in San Francisco on Jan 24

I think Orangevale is near the OP !

Eric Johnson is also playing some dates around the same time -- check his website.

Also, can you post your Stax setlist ? I love that stuff...

YES! The SMB gig is very near me.

Here are some belated pics:

Here is the Foxtrot Mary band van. Every band needs one of these:

Tools of the trade that night. For those of you who don't frequent the bass side, my daughter plays the Big Al bass.

As far as a set list, anything from the Blues Brothers' catalog, Sam&Dave, Otis, Booker T and The MGs, Wilson Pickett etc. We add some Memphis material not on Stax to fill out the night, like Sun material. The music is really connecting, we are starting to get real busy.

The band's site is here, with tracks and video:

Congrats and welcome to the Morse club LawDaddy. Extremely versatile guitars, and perfect for Stax/Sun tones. Yours is a realy beauty. Good call to you and the missus for picking it up.

Glad to hear that the gig went very well and the bookings are up. I love the Stax/Sun material myself and always squeeze a few tunes into our gigs, though the rest of the band prefer harder rock/blues.

That's why I started my own band. ;)

Good call LawDaddy. I've got a bunch of my own material ready to record over the winter, so that may be in the cards. I will have to stay on with the existing bunch as well though, as they are fantastic players and we always have a blast.

I'd say based on what your wife did she is more of a beauty than the guitar! In any case really nice guitar!

Thanks everyone!

I did install 500k pots. Opened up the neck pickup tremendously, and position 4 (both hums on) sounds very much like a 335, perfect for the genres I play.

Two things I am really digging about the pickups: 1) this is my first extended experience with ceramics (except for the mandatory Super Distortion experiments) and I really like the quickness under hand, BUT 2) this guitar is never harsh. It pushes out of the mix, but is never ice-picky. This what the bandmates and sound people are telling me, my usual critics. The Tune-O-Matic also contributes to a focused, fundamental tone, a great attribute I love of Gibsons. Very much borrowing from the best of many different worlds.

I just got back from a singer/songwriter gig where I played straight into my solid state amp (a Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight, which has infinite headroom/no distortion whatsoever) and accompanied a singer playing an acoustic guitar, got nothing but compliments. "Smooth tone" seemed to be the theme of the comments.

Oh, and the purple... Yowza. It's great having people slowly approach you at a gig, trying to figure out what this purple thing is. One guy finally walked right up to me (I was playing on a stool), cocked his head sideways, and read the headstock :)

Yes, Mrs. LawDaddy hit it out of the park on this one!!!
