I've just taken off a mirrored scrachplate from my 93 Ray - I liked it for a while, but it was a bit too garish and cheap looking.

I'm quite taken by the look of the Ray without the scratchplate - can't decide whether to fit the original black plate again or leave it as it is - in all its naked glory............

Put the original guard back on. It's part of the EBMM signature aesthetic.

Without it, you've got something that looks like a G&L.

What color is the bass? There are lots of cool and classy aftermarket choices that can bring new life to it. A cool pickguard can change the whole character of the bass.

Agree completely! The pickguard is part of the design, maybe I'm narrowminded but to me that PU loks awfully lonely without the pickguard. All IMO of course.

In well-stocked hardware stores you can find small, attractive
screws [colors, chromed, etc] with relatively wide, flat heads.
You can put these into the screw holes to maintain the EBMM
trade-dress oval outline yet still have a "naked" top with lotsa
finish color [or wood grain] on display.
