Has anyone here installed the Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups in their Floyd Axis and what did you think of them compared to the DiMarzios?

Any mods needed to the guitar itself? Trimming the legs of the pickup I don't care about as its just a pickup, but if there are any routing mods necessary to the guitar, forget it.

Any info appreciated,

Cheers

I've only heard great things about them! Check out some of the demos on youtube...however I have not seen any in Axis guitars so cant really help there. Actually there is a video of a guy that demoed the bridge Aldrich in a JP, so I dont think it should be an issue. Here is the link :). I think it sounds pretty good.

Morse, Luke, Petrucci, EVH, etc. all have been involved in development & research with the finest instruments on the planet. Why change pickups? I'm completely satisfied with the tonal variety of my Balls. I'm just saying......

Never tried the Aldrich pups, but the other $uhr pickups I've had were all fantastic. No reason to believe these would be any less.

The Aldrich's are some of the best pickups you can get. Not heard one in an axis, but I'm sure it would sound awesome.

Hey, u talkin to me? NY
I have one in my custom Suhr Modern and it's awesome, but I would never swap out my DiMarzio Axis pickups out of my Axis guitars or my 25th - not even for an Aldrich pickup. If you do, let me know and I will buy the DiMarzio Axis bridge pickup from you! I have played a lot of different pickups on other guitars and the DiMarzio Axis pickups (which you cannot buy in stores) are my favorite.

I wouldn't be selling the Axis pickups, no way and I love the way the guitar is playing and love the pickups as the DiMarzio's are truly great. Its the tinkerer inside me that is curious thats all and seeing if maybe, just maybe theres a chance to improve the guitar even more.

I'll check out that video, thanks

I have the Aldrich pickups in a Paul Gilbert. They are amazingly clear pickups given that they are extremely hot. They also split well.

Suggestion: Don't mess with perfection.

I have a Mighty M!te San Dimas body, one humbucker (Aldrich)......the guitar simply screams.
Build yourself a guitar, then you can tinker.

I'm actually curious as well since I'm looking to put the Aldrich pups in my axis as well. I currently have active SD blackouts which are a bit to hot and sterile for my tastes. I'm likely going to go ahead with the suhr pups in the new year.

How do you like those BKP in the JP6 lately?

Im really diggin the BKP's; a lot tighter than the Crunch lab. More suited for classic and hard rock, than the CL, IMO. I'm just having a few electronic glitches with my guitar that I'm in the middle of resolving...may end up sending it to the factory as there seems to be issues with the outputs or possibly piezo preamp...not sure yet.

I've had the Aldrich pup in my Axis few year back and ended putting back the stock pups...can't remember why,...Aldrich had more output and a bit compressed, I didn't care for the neck pup at all! Maybe I'll install the Aldrich again and report back .

I have Suhrs in all my guitars - Les Paul, couple mahog schecters - except my Axis. I would never mess with that perfection. Just picked up a JP6 and after a couple days with the stock
Pups and not liking what I heard for hard rock tones (AC/DC, GNR style) I put in a Suhr bridge - wow! Awesome! The instrument came alive. I think Suhr is the best pickup out there for a modern take on hard rock
Crunch.

I love to tinker and see what I can get out of a guitar. I installed the usual D-Tuna on my Axis as well as a large brass sustain block. All is great and I'm happy, however with the Axis being so good as it is there's no more need to touch that guitar besides the usual string change and clean up. So what I decided was to slowly put together a parts guitars to experiment on, kind of like a never ending project so to speak. My base will be the right type of body shape and wood which will never be replaced. Once I find that its off to the races.
I won't go into details as this is a forum dedicated to Music Man instruments and I absolutely love mine so not going to change it any further and just do as I've been doing since day 1 and enjoy playing it!
