Package arrived at 11:30 AM. Should I open it?!?!

;)

Never thought much of this but I bought a guitar last month and the builder was emphatic that I don't open it until the next day. It was nitrocellulous as opposed to poly. I know what EXTREME temp changes can do to a finish but I usually just open them, even in the winter, and never had any trouble.

I de-frosted my Y2D in the case for about 3 hours before I opened it and it didn't have any problems. The Morse I just got wasn't in a case so I only defrosted it for about an hour (but the neck was backbowed awful either from the change in temp or the shoddy condition it was in). I think you are probably safe now, can't wait to see pics!!!!

Well we just went from the steady 50s to a drastic drop into the 20s here in NY. If I just had a guitar delivered I would honestly wait 24 hours to play it safe, and let it adjust to the climate change. A lot of guys are putting guitar bodies in the freezer and then taking them out into heat to get a checkered effect. I would rather play it safe then sorry!

well it's similar when I get to a gig - bringing the guitar in the car, then walking with it into the venue, I always just open the lid and keep it open slightly with a towel. Let it acclimatize, then by the time you've set up the backline and PA
the guitar has had a good chance to "warm up". I would have thought that something similar would be appropriate in your circumstances too?

With poly finish, I don't think there is a risk. But of course, I live in a civilized country with a temperate climate !

I opened last it night, it sat in the case for 8 hours, which was probably plenty. No issues ...

Pics coming soon. It's a special run Morse Y2D with hardtail, roasted maple neck and the black sugar paint. The BEST looking EBMM I've ever laid eyes on. Damn ...
